Windows 10 only using 2 cores

Go to solution Solved by Godlygamer23,

The way the CPU is being read, it's normal since four logical processors are appearing. The modules are appearing as Cores, while the cores within the modules are appearing as "logical processors" or threads.

I recently bought AMD Athlon X4 860k Quad Core and my friend whos way better then me at computer put it in. I don't know why but windows says that its is only 2 cores and i don't want to bother my epic friend. so the thing is windows and bios aren't agree on how many cores their are.

Windows 10 shows AMDs CPUs like that, you need to look at logical processors.

It's just a bug. You can see 4 logical processors which means 4 threads.

your CPU has 2 cores and 4 modules

not 4 cores

not 4 cores

It has two modules, each containing two integer cores.

No if you look at the cpu specs on bios it says 4 cores

No if you look at the cpu specs on bios it says 4 cores

theyre not fully independent cores

different software reads it differently

since there are only 2 modues windows read these as 2 physical cores

modules are not the same thing as cores

some people argue that AMD cores are full cores, some people argue that they arent

linus calls them "half cores"

the point is that windows just displays it differently and your CPU is fine
