Did i f*** up?

Go to solution Solved by runit3,

So i bought this mobo http://www.msi.com/product/motherboard/X99A-SLI-PLUS.html#hero-overview and i am getting a Intel i7 6700k at the start of next month. And after a bit if reading i might have read the chipset wrong on the mobo? So my question is will this combo work?

Thanks for all help :)

You bought the wrong MOBO. Skylake is Z170 aka 1151. X99 is 2011-v3. It will not work.

*edit* you could always buy a 5820k, which will work in X99, and is roughly the same price (maybe even cheaper) than the 6700k.

The 6700K uses LGA1151, while X99 uses LGA2011v3. The two are not compatible.

You're going to want to send it back and get a refund if you want to use that CPU. It's the wrong socket.

IPC on Skylake is ~5-10% difference depending on the application or test. The 5820k has a 2c/4t advantage over the 6700. If you're doing any video editing/production, or have software platforms that can utilize those extra cores it would be well worth it (considering they're the same price).
