I managed to snag a Reference R9 290X today from Microcenter for $155.  While I am not much of an AMD fan it was too good of a deal to pass up for my media server/backup PC.  It does however run hotter than hell.   So I am looking for a way to keep it cool.  I would prefer not to do a custom loop on this machine so what other options do I have?

There are aftermaket coolers that would do the heat exchange for this card very well

How big of a case do you have?  if its big then maybe some aftermarket coolers.

If not so big maybe a 120mm aio.

Missing the Arctic Accelero Extreme 3. A pain to install but most cost effective solution. Nice list though :)

The MK-26 is less on Newegg (about the same after you buy a couple fans) and performs better =)

It's only $7 cheaper than the xtreme 3 on Amazon. Both are good options. I guess the MK-26 would perform better but not by much since the xtreme 3 already lowers temps to the 60s.

Can you send me a link? i was looking at the Xtreme IV. Their branding is a little confusing.

Also yea they will both perform sufficiently so the difference in temps once they're that low doesn't make much of a difference but i own an MK-26 and used two 140MM fans at a static 1000RPM to achieve those temps. The accelero has three smaller 92mm fans than range from 900 - 2,000 RPM so it would definitely be a decent amount louder. There are pro's and cons to each of course :)
