Multi tasking with i5 4690k?

qwest
Go to solution Solved by Clear17Mud,

An I5 should be fine for doing that.

Wondering how multi tasking is with this CPU. Will it be enough for playing games like overwatch, star wars battlefront and others with programs like skype/ts, spotify and youtube open without much performance loss in gaming? Gonna be paired with a GTX 970. If not would it be better to go with an i7 4790k and a 380x? I would probably be able to upgrade my gpu to pascal by the end of the year if I go that route.

I5 with 4 cores is plenty and multitasking will be fine. I would get a 390 though.Unless you need cuda or shadowplay.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

It'd be better to go with an i5 with an R9 390 instead of a 970 unless you really need nvidia's features or CUDA.

Yeah, i considered the 390 at firsr but need the CUDA and was planning on using shadow play

You will get better multitasking from an i7 due to the HyperThreading, but the i5 should still be fine with what you intend. So if the price difference between the i7 and i5 is reasonable (in your opinion), I'd say to go for it. Otherwise, just make sure you've got plenty of memory.
