i5 2500k good price for perfomance?

I'm looking at CPUs for my first gaming system, and I've heard some good things about the i5 2500k. Anyone have experience with this chip? What are the pros and cons?

Thanks in advance :)

You can't get a mobo for it easily.

I have a 2500k right behind me untouched.

Good: Very good gaming chip, doesn't bottleneck even a 980 Ti, overclocks like a beast, 4 cores.

Bad: Z77 boards (so you can overclock) are sometimes quite expensive, sometimes the chip is not super cheap

Yeah a Z77 board would be helpful obviously, thanks for your feedback. :)

Doesn't bottleneck a 980Ti? LOL yeah right... Maybe at 4k resolution but 1080? And 1440p? Easily.

With a slight overclock to 4.0 - 4.2ghz for example the i5-2500K will have similar performance to this 175$ CPU here...and this one you can easily find cheap 60$ motherboards for:

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646i54460

So, unless the 2500K come in combo with a Z68 or Z77 motherboard for around 200$ or less, it can be a good deal...if it's anything more than that, get an i5-4460 and a cheap H97 motherboard instead.

Not that people just seem to think that intel is the god of CPUs. They are good though a 2nd generation i5 will bottleneck a 980Ti. IT isn't much faster then a FX8350 when it comes to gaming though people scream and shout when they put a 980Ti with that.

true but they are like £70 and most do 4.8ghz easy, so it doesnt really matter :P not to mention they are soldered so they run at under 70c on even crappy single tower air coolers.
