I7 5820k or a Xeon equivalent

Are there any Xeon processors that are equivalent in performance to the I7 5820k? I am looking to build my cousin a computer because his birthday is coming up and I have extra money lying around I have every part or picked out but he isn't going to be doing too much gaming. By that I mean he is going to be playing some high end games but not all the time. He mostly does content creation and recently got into 3D modeling.

Not really. The 5820K is very good value for what it is. There's the 1231v3 that's a good alternative to the 4790, but not much to compete with 2011-3 CPUs. (At least, not the 5820K. There's probably better options than the 5960X)

It's a good $200+ more than the 5820K. Other than ECC support, there's not much to put it above the 5820K.

No, simply because the 5820k has a relatively high clock speed and can be overclocked.

actually the only cheaper 8 core is 600$ but it doesn't have HT and is clocked very low.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Yeah, at that point, you're getting into "proper" Xeons that don't handle single threaded applications too well. Designed for constant, heavily threaded workloads.

There is no Xeon equivalent to the 5820K. Closest ones are the 1620 v3 and 1630 v3, but they're quad cores, with less cache.

Xeon E5 1650 v3 is a 5930K, but with a higher turbo boost, and Xeon E5 1660 v3 is a 5960X

I don't think there is any Xeon's equivalent of the 5820K, that i7 has higher P/P ratio than the 5930K so it is popular among those with non-expensive X99 rigs

It's a good choice
