Best cpu under $100

Im on a tight budget and have 100 dollars to spend on a cpu. If someone could send me in the right direction as to where i can get the best bang for my buck it would be very much appreciated.

Intel fanboys "enthusiasts" will tell you to get the G3258 but that is not a gaming processor.  

 

UPDATE (tired of getting notifications) You could always look in the used market for an older gen i5 like a 2500k or something.  Probably can find one on Ebay for just around 100 dollars.  But you gotta be careful when shopping on the used market you can get problems with longevity of the product.

If you can spare $10 I would say an i3

 

On the AMD side its a x4 860k, and if you won't play games where 4+ cores are needed a G3258 until you can upgrade it

Please dont tell him to buy an i3 ESPECIALLY if he is going to use it for gaming.  Just because it's intel doesnt immediately make it the best CPU for that price.  If I had 100 dollars and wanted to get a bang-for-my-buck CPU I would not buy an Intel processor.

the issue i have with the 6300 is with single core performance and more likely then not people will encounter a game or program where that single core performance with rip their performance to shreds. Its decent but with AMD i either get a APU or the 8000 series, nothing lower.

i had fun with my old i3

it was on pair with my friends FX8350 (we both had 970)

 

and it still is in most games

but new games utilize more cores, so yes, in the future 8350 will beat i3

but i doubt fx6300 ever will
