"More options to upgrade"? I don't think you understand what you're saying here.

AM3+ means you can use any of the FX4 FX6, and FX8 processors, possibly FX9 if the mainboard supports the power delivery, since the FX processors are supported by both the 970 and 990 chipsets. The i5-4460 is socket 1150. You don't have a great upgrade path on that socket either. From the 4460 you can go only to the i5-46xx or i7-47xx series processors unless you want to shell out for the i7-49xx or a Xeon. So where exactly is the upgrade path? Even if the 1150 socket was re-used between Skylake and Haswell, the chipset and motherboard would determine upgrade path, not the socket.

Sure from a FX6 you can go only to an FX8 or FX9, but the question to ask there is how likely anyone is to switch out just their processor? I'd say it's quite unlikely to happen, so why even bring up the "upgrade path"? Seriously in the last 17 years I've been building computers, anytime I've upgraded I've always swapped out everything: mainboard, processor, and memory. Only once did I swap out just the CPU, and that was to move from a Cyrix 200 MHz to an AMD K6-2 333MHz. Most everyone who builds a system will pick a processor/mainboard combination and stick with that for a while. Hardly anyone swaps out just the processor, making any mention of a possible "upgrade path" largely moot.

The reason to not go with the FX processors today is simply age. For gaming systems, they'll still do well -- as my wife's system can attest -- but there are better options out there -- as the system I delivered to her friend can attest. But mentioning "upgrade options" as if the person building the system will be later changing out just their processor is a rather bland argument, and those who bring it up give the impression they have no idea what they're talking about.

True, the FX 6300 and further versions aren't crap for gaming, they still perform fairly well even when outperformed by the aged well intel processors (higher end i3 and up) <<May need some correction if needed

I'm getting around 120-150FPS average in CS:GO on maxed out settings with an 8350 so it's definitely playable...

My laptop could without threading is faster than that.

Yeah, but unless you have a 144hz panel it wouldn't even be noticeable and let's be real, FX + a 144hz panel doesn't seem too realistic :P

Yeah if you play casually.

But if you have many things going on at the same time and frame drops to about 70 it is going to be noticeable competitively.

There is already enough proof to show that getting an i5 4460 is hands down better than the fx 6300, however the fx 6300 doesn't perform like the worst cpus out there and is still fairly fine to game on

Totally agree but giving personal proof helps back up their point a little more and possibly explain to the OP which is better for the particular task at hand. Another thing that comes into play is the cost of the motherboard and the particular motherboard you might choose :)

with OP saying that he is on budget, I think the fx 6300 will be good, not perform good as the i5 4460, but again I think if he is largely on budget he will have to go with the fx 6300 as it would still perform good for gaming

 

For the motherboard, if OP is not Oc'ing then the motherboard option for both the fx 6300 and i5 4460 should not cost much...But since he is on budget going with an intel 180 dollar cpu with a 40 dollar + motherboard is more costlier than an amd cpu that costs 110 dollars + 40$ or more motherboard. 

 

While the i5 4460 does perform better, OP should still choose fx 6300 since he is on budget

Well even if the FX-6300 is great value the i5 is still better my advice is to go i5 if you can afford it... :P

finally someone who can understand that im on a budget and im not living in the us so pc parts here are expensive as hell 

but after thinking and doing some maths i think that ill stay with my current cpu i3 4150 and get a gtx 960 and then in the future will upgrade my cpu if i didnt sell the whole pc

Digital Foundry GTA5 test 8350 loses to a 2500K let alone a 4460 like i said i'm not debating this a 4460 is better than a 8350 let alone a 6300.

In Op's situation I don't think so...He is better of going with a cheap but good for gaming cpu that will save him alot of money due to him being on budget but at the same time the i5 4460 is definitely worth the premium to pay for.....Especially any lga 1150 mobo out there giving you many upgrade options for future gaming but not that it makes the amd cpus bad at all (just wanting to point out something)

Good choice for future upgrade...if you are planning to OC?  If not then that K is kind of pointless and you might as well buy an intel i5 cpu that performs similar to that cpu you listed

 

But since you are still deciding, we will wait until you come up with a true decision

I am not sure what he should do I say his budget should decide! :D (sadly FX-6300 needs a cooler unlike the FX-6350 which has a FX-8300 cooler)

True let his budget decide it for now but so far he has chose neither and is planning out on another cpu in the future...So far he decided to get a gtx 960

FX-6300 is rated at 95w and well only the 125w models get the decent cooler with heat sink but both is loud! :P

Hmm interesting...I thought that fx 6300 had its own cpu cooler
