$1500 USD Editing / Gaming Build

RevoltTrain
I was wondering what I could do to improve this $1500 USD build for gaming and editing videos. My current PC is starting to feel a bit dated with gaming and feeling extremely dated when editing footage from my GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition. Would I be better with getting a smaller SSD and a Bigger HDD to go with a more powerful GPU? Or would this build be better than just about any other in the $1500 USD Budget?

I really want a mid tower, last year I bought a Silent Base 800 when they first came out, loved the case, but just too big for me to lug to LAN parties every weekend so I went back to my old case.

isn`t that PSU a bit overkill? Crossfire would not even need that much

No. I think he ment if your editing videos 24/7 or doing it for work not personal videos then yes.

But the i5 will do..

How much editing are you planning to be doing? If it's a lot, you would probably benefit from the X99 platform instead of the Z170 because you can get more cores.

About your storage question, I think the 500gb SSD is perfectly fine. What are you planning to do with it? OS + programs and maybe few games you play the most often? If you are going to use it as a scratch disk then you could need more, but as I don't edit much I'm not the best to tell you about your editing workflow. You could do 256gb to save up though. It should still plenty enough if you don't want many games on it. As for the hard drive, that's mostly up to you, do you think 2tb is enough for your current and future use?

About the video card. That GPU is a great choice. The question is, what are your needs? You're thinking on saving up on your drives to pick a better graphics card, but why? What are your expectations, what resolution and quality settings would you be running on?

Doesn't look like you'll be doing intense rendering/editing so this will cater more for gaming but I've still given you 16GB for RAM for editing. Of course, an i5 will still do the job fine at a lower cost.

I see, So you're probably better off with this platform and this CPU. If you want more than 1080p then perhaps you could use a more expensive GPU, but then it also depends on how far you want to go. A guy above suggested a 980ti, but the price gets a bit on the high side. You could also look at AMD's Fury X which performs roughly the same. But those are pretty high end cards and very expensive. If gaming is your no1 priority and you plan to move higher than 1080p in the future, then it could make sense. Another thing to note would be that it shouldn't take too long for next generation of cards to be out this year. So there's that, if you can wait on the card it could work out better for you.

Yeh, mainly because of its lack of lanes available. But for a single card setup it won't be a bottleneck at all.
