So wtf is this, ever since I started working here at my new job I been getting nose bleeds. Is it dry air? I've had 6 nosebleeds now. 2 today, 2 a month ago, and 2 nearly 3 months ago.

I never had one before I started working here.

I had the same issue.

So I live in a desert... When I first moved here, I got them at least once a day. The doctor I went to told me that sometimes in dry environments, your nose has issues clearing bacteria. Even tho these are discussing, using a nasal rinse and shoving a antibiotic cream like neosporin in your nose apparently helps. I still get them every now and then, but for the most part they have stopped. But you aren't getting them nearly as much as I used to...

They are worth a shot. I doubt you could make it worse trying...

That is what helped me. But I'm not a doctor. Don't quote me.

If you're working in a dry environment your nasal passages dry out. This will cause the bleeding. When you do get the nosebleeds, tilt your head back and pinch your nose. I used to get them bad when I was younger, and the doctor told my mom to have me do that instead of putting my head down between my legs. It worked great at stopping the nose bleeds.

I used to get some bad gushers. I'd wake up to my pillow being covered.

You're nose should adjust after a while, if not talk to a pharmacist about a nasal moisturizer.

It's always a good day if you woke up breathing.

I guess you dont work on top of a mountain or anything but I believe that dry air is sometimes caused by altitude.(availability of oxygen decreases, making air thinner and therefore dryer) So where do you work?

Oxygen levels and air pressure don't dictate humidity. Some areas are just dry due to climate reasons, plus it's winter, and cold air holds less moisture.

Oh right, well couldnt ya just ask a nurse or something to see what they can do for you, since you help them out too :)

Also, I guess the hospital is low on the ground and not anywhere high? Or do you work on a high level floor? IDK...

I agree, my hands crack up in winter so it is most likely that. But im still, just trying to help :)

Today where I live it's 33% humidity.

Today where I live it's 33% humidity.

That's pretty dry, especially if it's cold out. That 33% is a relative number, compared to the carrying capacity of the air at that temperature. When drawn inside and heated, that number will drop even further. This will be made even worse by the high air exchange rate in hospitals that will never allow humidity to build from people breathing and things.

A nasal saline mist a few times a day might help you out a lot.

What is a good humidity level? And yes, it's really cold here. I'm from Thailand. I'm used to 32 degree weather. It's 12 degrees here.

You're nose should adjust after a while, if not talk to a pharmacist about a nasal moisturizer.

Just a note, this is not the recommended way of treating nose bleeds.

Treating a normal nose bleed only really involves two things;

1. Sit up and leaning forward a bit

And

2. Pinching just below the bridge of the nose

Firstly, in this position you will have lower blood pressure in your nose, this is going to help the blood coagulate (so the clotting isn't just continually pushed out). Secondly, the blood coming out of your nose will drip out (normally you hold paper towel or something below to catch it) which helps keep your airways clear. And finally, the applied pressure helps to promote blood coagulation (don't squeeze too hard, just gently).

If you have nose bleed really frequently then you should see an ENT (Ears, Nose and Throat) Doctor because you may have something going wrong up there.

Indoor levels around 50% are usually targeted for the winter. This is usually limited by condensation on exterior windows so you might not be able to get to that level. It's generally not recommended to exceed 50% in any season because it increases the risk of mold growth, again this might not be practical due to environmental conditions.

I thought this was the way, so I didn't listen to that other guy lol

Um, but is it recommended to blow the blood out your nose before leaning forward and pinching? That's what I usually do.

I blow out the blood, i stick a tissue paper in it to clean it, then get a new tissue paper and sit at my desk with the tissue in my nose, pinching under the bone.

Are you stressed?

Do you pick your nose..?

Yes, my stress levels are probably higher than most peoples on some days...
