So I've always backed Nintendo. I've tried to avoid being blinded by my fanboyness and I think I've done a good job. I LOVE the Wii U however I know it's faults and I know why people have been reluctant and slow to adopt it. Nintendo needs to take a step back and look at what it is that make Microsoft and Sony so successful. Not that they need to copy but I believe that if Nintendo stopped trying to force a place for motion controls in the market and updated their hardware ( I honestly think the cost of the gamepad prevented them from using modern hardware) then they would have a competitive platform. It's also no secret that the gamepad and motion controls have been turning off third party developers.

Yeah..

I dont see them going bankrupt anytime soon, like some people say, but I do think all the gimmicky controls and stuff are getting annoying now.

it almost seems like they are throwing stuff against a window to see what will stick. a touchscreen did, motion controls a bit, but 3D.. not so much.

Dont have a Wii U (yet?) though, but do have a 3DS since almost launch and enjoy it a lot.

~rekt~

That's actually quite the opposite, the Wii U is failing and the 3DS is what's keeping them alive, although after the New 3DS that's dying off too.

I think they are rapidly loosing credibility, especially from the new Wii-U which didn't live up to expectations, they are trying too much to fit in with Sony/Microsoft in my opinion. Also, it's worth noting that they are on a decline in assets and profits, with also a decline in productions and sales.

It's definitely loosing credibility, but it isn't going anywhere fast.

So what you are saying is that nintendo needs to make a more powerful console to play games that are very easy to run?

Nintendo needs to make a console that is backed by multiple third parties and has control systems and online networking that compete with Microsoft and Sony for Friend Networking and Gaming

Theyre not going anywhere and think they should keep doing their own thing. Nintendo, PC gaming, and jRPG's have been going out of business since the 90's. Nintendo has a boatload of money in the bank. They wont be going down for a few decades (if we take into account their worst year vs what they have in liquidable assets). I'm expecting them to outlast MS and Sony in a long term battle on the gaming front.

I doubt it. They survived since the n64 days without a lot third party support. the n64, gamecube, and wii u have all had the same problem.

I think that (except for in the 3DS) they're headed in the wrong direction. I'm with you, I love the WiiU. I love all the new Mario games, Smash Brothers, Mario Kart, Splatoon is probably my favorite Third-Person Shooter right now. I LOVE that it has free multiplayer. But, if I didn't have a PC or a PS4 already, I would not buy the WiiU. Why not? Because there's hardly any third-party support. You can almost only play Nintendo games. I think Call of Duty is on there, but it plays like it does on the old consoles- pretty horribly.

Well you said 3D not so much even though it sells better than the Wii U which is also touch screen.

With touch screen I was mostly referring to the original Nintendo DS

They'd better knock it out of the park with the NX. It better not be another gimmick that's targeted at 10-12 year olds. They need to make a piece of hardware, not a toy.

I think people like to convince themselves of crap after the fact. You guys say that the GamePad was a bad idea but  since the Wii U launched NVidia, Valve, Sony and Microsoft have all pushed remote-play solutions. As someone who is a fanboy and has owned the thing since day1? I think people need to recognise how ahead of the curve Nintendo were in that regard. They gambled big on remote play and it didn't pay off for them. But they were right to think that it was an important development and from now on I suspect it'll become a standard feature.

As for Nintendo themselves, despite the Wii U's bellow par performance their software has been great. Some of the most innovative and fun games in years. For the people who think the 3DS is great I think you fail to realise how much more fun is to be had on the Wii U. With a straight face I'd happily make the argument that it's the best platform Nintendo has ever made. And believe me, I know Nintendo's platforms. If Nintendo keeps this sort of quality up then you can only assume they'll have a hit again at some point or another. This isn't the first time Nintendo has been "doomed"

The other two consoles out there are already just bad PCs; I don't think Nintendo should bother trying to "compete" with them - come up with some other unique interesting aspect and it will sell.  I always thought it was perfectly reasonable to have a wii and another console or PC, despite thinking that having a PC and one of the other two would be weird and pointless.  Why?  It was different enough that I didn't see it as "one or the other", or "competition" - it was just another device to add to your arsenal.

Nintendo's future is looking brighter than Sony's right now to me.  Sony still has to find a way to stop bleeding money all over the place.  Happily their turn around efforts seem to be paying off, but I'd say still a ways away from full recovery.  For the time being, Nintendo needs to hunker down, and offer some compelling hardware with features that set it apart from the fairly similar X1 and PS4.  Real and prolonged 3rd party support wouldn't hurt as well.

I'm enjoying my Wii U quite a bit, and while it does lack power compared to the newer consoles... I'm not exactly hurting right now.  Also with the Vita's lack of apparent successor, I'd say Nintendo has won the handheld arena for the time being.

Not quite, I'd love to make a Nintendo console my only console, I could get over not having exclusives like halo and gears if third party devs would make games for a Nintendo console. I think the graphic capabilities of the Wii U are fine and I loved WW HD and AC 4 on the Wii U

I'd also like to say that I've never had more fun playing games in the same room as my friends on any console other than a Nintendo console. The living room is for Nintendo and I'd love to see them dominate social gaming again
