I don't understand why wb is suing to inforce a law, they are a Corp not the gov,the only way they can win is to prove that it hurt business or affected them, with HD fury being so small compared to wb, wb is just bullying them to shut down,

I've no idea, that's why I asked. I don't see how they can prevent someone from recording video by capturing the signal of said video, when said signal is passed through a recording device.

I don't know exactly how it works, but I'd assume that it employs some kind of encryption similar to how pay-2-view TV channels restrict access to their content via decoder cards.

I guess that makes sense. But what if you just pass the video through to a PC, and do screen capture recording?

That'd work, but then you're circumventing the copy protection and contravening the DMCA EVEN if you only want to do the equivalent of record a video tape of the TV show/event/whatever (which falls under fair use!)

I get that, I'm pointing out that their lawsuit is asinine and will have zero effect on piracy, as usual.
