While I know LTT made a video on this (as I've already watched it), I was looking into computer CPUs and it seems with the absurd shortage of 6700K CPUs they have went up in price by a significant margin. As it stands right now it is actually cheaper to buy a 5820K than the 6700K and while most of my time will be spent gaming I will also need a system that can edit video for youtube. However with the cost going up on the 6700K the MOBO for X99 is about $100 dollars more... So... 5820K or 6700K?

5820k would be better for editing

Pro Tip: don't use flash when taking pictures of your build; use a longer exposure instead. Prop up your camera with something (preferably a tripod) if necessary.

if you use retarded/autistic/etc to mean stupid please gtfo

5820k is better. If you were to get a Z170 mobo to match the features of the X99 one, you'd end up paying even more.

If you are mostly gaming, then I would go for the 6700k. The better single threaded performance will help in gaming, and unless you do editing full time, waiting a 5 more mins to render a video wont be too bad.

Nah, not really. The single-threaded performance of a 5820k is around the same as the one of the 4790k (on the same clock speeds). That's more than enough for gaming, and you still end up having a 30% faster CPU overall on a higher-end platform that gets two new 6, one 8 and one 10 cored CPU this year.

If you plan to overclock the 5820K, then it's a no brainer.

Price: Cheaper

Gaming: Equal

Raw performance: Better

Upgradability: Better

Sweg: More

If you don't plan on overclocking...well gaming is the only part where 5820K is weaker. But seriously, it's incredibly easy and risk free to overclock an intel cpu nowdays... at least on a good motherboard.

While I usually would agree, if I OC the CPU to stock 6700K, I seem to wonder why I would pay the extra money for it... I get a superior chipset, with the possibility to upgrade to a 5930K in the future... more RAM capacity and Quad channel support, and I would get more PCI lanes... I just feel like X99 offers more with Z170 being so expensive at the moment.

Since there basically are no X99 boards that won't allow you to go around 4,5ghz with the 5820k, it's simply a better choice.

5930k is pointless, it's a well-binned 5820k with more PCI lanes. As far as upgradability goes, look into new Broadwell-E CPUs that are coming out this year.

I'd opt for a 5820k over skylake as the current moment.

Have a friend with a similar matched system and we trade blows obviously.

6700k is a tad bit better in terms for gaming but the 6 core just crushes in everything else.

So happy with a my 5820K! Better choice with the 2 extra cores and still does amazing in games, dx12 games are coming soon and are hopefully better optimized for 4-8 core cpus.

A 212? Really? That's like putting fuzzy dice in a Ferrari.

Well... they don't have stock heat sinks and I don't necessarily have more than like 800 dollars... I'm pushing the budget

Dude, cut out lunch out for the week or something else and get a cooler worthy of that monster. You're going to make god cry.

I mean it's not like the 212 can't handle it, and I'll eventually replace it for AIO Liquid cooler so it's just a temporary fix

Don't mind me, I see and enthusiast CPU and EVO 212 in the same sentence and go cross eyed

I have a AIO and wish I had held out for a loop. I know they're expensive but dat cooling power.

Not really. My AIO is only good for a few years, after that the fluid can't be changed so it's junk. A custom loop can be flushed. plus you're in control of, EVERYTHING  . The temps Jayz gets with his are enough to make me want one in the worst way.

Yea, and don't get me wrong, I WANT a custom loop. There is SO MUCH you can do with it and I'd love to have that red liquid in my PC to match the theme but... I've done the research and it's like an extra $500 at minimum
