So my current hard drive isn't in the greatest state and is failing from what I have been told so I am thinking of taking up this opportunity by getting a new ssd for windows 10 and a few programs like MS Office and anti-virus and to get a new 1TB hdd for your regular stuff and games.

Currently I have been thinking about a HyperX Fury 120GB ssd on amazon for £40 and a WD Blue 1TB for £37 from which I assume isn't that bad but I have seen people suggesting to get a 240gb ssd like the samsung 850 evo but I don't plan on putting a lot onto a ssd.

So any suggestions on anything I should change or would this be good enough?

It really is good to have you main programs and OS on an SSD but if you don't intent to store loads on it, I'd say a singular 120GB with 1TB on the side is good wnough. Personally I would go for 240GB to be safe but its really up to you if you want the spare space.

HyperX Fury is a decent SSD.

I think it has 3 years warranty.

I'd personally go for the Samsung 850 evo, just for the extra 2 years warranty.

It performs similar or better than HyperX fury.

For the capacity, I'd personally go for the 240GB, to install games and what not there.

WD Blue 1TB is a good choice. Go for that.

Hey there coreybay :) Welcome to the community!

For the current drive you can get the best idea of its health by checking its S.M.A.R.T. status. If you are not sure how to read it feel free to post it here with its raw values and we will help you out. :)

The general rule of thumb is that larger SSDs work faster compared to the ones with less capacity. I doubt that you will notice the difference with your type of usage, though. I would say that it's only a matter of how much storage space you would need for the more demanding applications. My suggestion would be to see how much space do your mostly used programs take and then decide on the SSD's capacity. Having more space is always a good idea in case you ever need it, but it's up to your plans and budget to decide this. :)

I have been using the Fury but it failed after 2 years. It was good performance SSD though. I contacted Kingston then and they then sent me HyperX savage as a replacement within 4 days. (I had to send the the Fury though). So regarding Kingston support I am very happy. I also have Samsung 850 EVO but just for games and it performs great as well.
