enermax EGA1000EWL 1000 watts

is this power supply good enough for the amd 295x2 gpu?

psu_egx1250ewt_spec.gif

if we are to go by the specs of the 1250w, yes

i cannot find the PSU you linked on Enermax's own sites. i believe the stats on Newegg are false

would i trust this PSU?

NO, the PSU may be OK. But who knows about customer support and whatnot

For reference. i own a 295x2

As we can see from the screenshots above, both the 3.3V and 5V rails exceed the 50mV tolerance of the ATX12V specification. When the 12V rails were all lowered to 10A each, the 3.3V rail was at 50mV. The 3.3V rail didn't show ripple less than 50mV until the load on the 12V rails was at 8A each.

Although I'm not going to change the score for the Enermax Galaxy, I am going to take the "jonnyGURU Recommended" away from it. In my opinion, you need a power supply like this if you need more than 40A on the 12V rail. But if you have more than a 40A load on the 12V rail of this power supply, as well as a relatively normal load on the 3.3V and 5V rails, the ripple is where I would have to think there could be potential damage to the RAM and possibly other components.

I'd also like to add that I had a good friend at a computer e-Tailer that was willing to "trade" power supplies with me. The second Galaxy 1kW exhibited the same ripple under these loads.

Of course, these are amateur findings and my opinion are just my opinion. There are many other reviews that have different impressions of this same power supply. I suggest that if you are considering this power supply, you take in what all of us have to say.

i read the review.... page 5 is where it goes down the drain

it suffers from bad ripple. which can outright KILL components over time or seriously degrade their lifespan

this means at idle/light operation, your PC can get seriously damaged over time from just web browsing...

THAT POWERSUPPLY CAN WRECK YOUR COMPUTER OVER TIME IF YOU PUT A HIGH LOAD ON IT!

THE VOLTAGE SUPPLIED EXIBITS INSTABILITIES. MEANING IT DOESNT GIVE STABLE POWER, IT HAS HICCUPS....

POWERSUPPLY WITH HICCUPS ARE BAD.

i have the 1000w not the 1250w

the review was for the 1000w one... i just cannot find the 1000w one on Enermax's own site. They only have the specs for the 1250w one.

Look in your manual. If you can supply MORE THEN 28A ON EACH 12v RAIL. IF IT CANNOT SUPPLY 28A PER 12V RAIL, THE 295X2 CAN SET FIRE TO IT ONCE YOU START PLAYING GAMES.

Go with a different card.

get a 980TI or Fury X.

Whatever you do. DO NOT buy an R9 295x2 with that powersupply

EDIT:

IMG_0799.jpg

THAT POWERSUPPLY CAN ONLY SUPPLY 17AMPs PER 12v RAIL. IF YOU CONNECT A 295x2 TO IT. YOUR PSU WILL LITTERALLY CATCH FIRE.

IT WILL GO UP IN FLAMES. FOR REAL

JohnyGURU's review is 99% positive

look at my above post.

did you read the review?

if you had done so, you would know that his PSU cannot handle the 295x2 which requires 2x 28amp SEPARATE 12v rails... at only 17amp per 12v rail, his PSU would catch fire within 15 minutes or less

JohnyGURU is very reliable so if it's 99% positive then it's good ^^ But @Prysin claims it's not good for 295x2 and as he owns one I assume he knows what he's talking about

Guess I was wrong to trust Enermax with higher end PSUs ._.

ok so ill try to find a good deal on a 980 ti or fury. thank you.

yeah, i own a 295x2 myself... it is NOT a GPU you take lightly.

it is getting close to burning up the wires themselves when under gaming load.

read the review. DO not trust a site just because they generally are right.

the details from this review clearly show that if you had tried to use a 295x2 with it, the PSU would catch fire within 15 minutes or less.
