If your budget is set on a 970, buy a R9-390.

10-15% higher performance for a little less money.

Just rma it if you can. It's better to spend ~$10 for shipping to get a new one/refurb than to buy a completely new graphics card.

An R9 390, maybe.

Quick English lesson: when using abbreviations with the article "a/an", use the article that fits with what that abbreviation stands for. In this case, "R" stands for "Radeon", so "A" should be used.

Get it anyway. The extra VRAM comes as a bonus if you start using larger monitors.

Not correct at all. It's all to do with phonetics. R is pronounced "ARR" which begins with a vowel, so "an" should be used. Please don't correct if what you're saying is shit.

When using abbreviations, you use articles that refer to the actual word the abbreviation stands for.

Is this a topic about GPUs or god damn grammar BS?

I´d go for either a GTX970 again if you like nVidia better or get the R9 390 due to the better VRAM situation.

im not exactly sure but it seems the issue is that sometimes my GPU doesnt output (doesnt output consistently i should say. i turn it on and it works! i shut it off and turn it on again it doesnt work and sends my my fans at like 80%) ive tried reinstalling my drivers, resetting the CMOS... the only thing i havent tried is a fresh install of everything. ive moved my GPU down 1 PCI slot and now it seems to be working as intended, but only time will tell.

i think your card would have to be faulty in the first place

hmm

maybe it's a pci slot thing? (so the problem is at your mobo not your gpu)

what about the refresh rate? was it all good?

yeah, this is what im thinking about

generally, i dont think a gtx970 cant handle an xl2411z

i mean, wtf :D

im not an expert on these things but i think gtx970 is a decent card for a 120-144hz display

you can acheive 90+ fps with every game.. alot of games can be maxed and have those framerates, some are more intensive so settings  may have to be turned down

for my 970 rig i am getting a 144hz display soon

I don't think its 10 - 15%, that's like 390x vs 970, more like 5% title dependant/review dependant

admittedly if I didn't already have my 970 I wouldn't have bought another for SLI (aka I would have bought a 980ti), but if I was to buy a card now and I didn't mind the heat it throws out id grab a 390
