I burned my pc while overclocking but not really.

I just have to share this story.

 

So I've been clocking my g3258 and I cranked the voltage up to 1.3V and the clock to 4.3Ghz.

Then i ran aida64 for bench, after half an hour my pc started smoking (Like a huge cloud of smoke came out),

I've quickly turned off my pc, and when i opened up my case there was smoke coming from the cpu.

I though Now hold on a minute cpu was working while it was smoking so it couldn't be that,

so I've powered my pc up again, and it started to smoke again.

 

Turns out a spider has walked on the 8pin for cpu and shorted the 12V rail :P (i had connected only a 4pin)

because even without a good stable PSU i've gotten up to 4.3Ghz stable!

Probably is the psu that pumped 5v through it. Or the motherboard.

The power supply is apparently 300W. The CX series doesn't have a 300W unit.

It should have known better than to walk across power connectors that have 30 amps running through them at a high enough voltage to jump into the spider :)

It should have known better than to walk across power connectors that have 30 amps running through them at a high enough voltage to jump into the spider :)

he was like laying on the pins so it had gone trough him directly. the minimum voltage that can jump is somewhere around 100V (unless you have an inductive load on it) and that is just like a 1/10 of a mm. :)

Don't spiders have some kind of secretion on their feet to stop them sticking to the glue on their webs? Maybe that is conductive, which would reduce the voltage needed to enter the spider.

yeah that might have been it, but he had to be fried a bit so his resistance was lower than 10ohm, but higher than 0.5 so it won't trigger the moterboard over current protection.
