$1000 build suggestions?

Hi,

My brother is building a new PC and is looking for parts to pick with a total of $1000. No keyboard/mouse, monitor, or Windows needed. Case appearance isn't that important as long as it's not god awful and still has good airflow. No modular PSU needed. Maybe something like an i5 4460 for the CPU? (I love mine)

You can easily get an i5 4690k in there, and a gtx 970 or similarly priced GPU, along with an SSD, great PSU, great case, and such.

 

I would highly suggest a modular PSU, or at least a semi-modular PSU, it will make your life a hell of a lot easier when it comes to cable managing.

Xeons are basically i7s that you can't overclock, don't have integrated graphics, and support ECC memory.

They're also quite a bit cheaper depending on the one you get.

Xeon is good for 8 thread low cost, don't think he needs that, stronger single cores and 4 threads still ideal for gaming.

This is what I'm looking at now. If possible (I hate myself for saying this) I'd like to do AMD GPUs just so I can crossfire in the future. Buying an SLI board is really expensive and the only good NVIDIA cards imo are the 970 and 980ti, with a big price gap. If I could find a good AMD GPU to fill in the rest of the budget and then crossfire later on that would be ideal.
