IT, as in programming.

That's what I am aiming for, so... It would be silly not to prefer that :P Keep in mind I never really done either one of those (except for my current software programming internship)

I guess I should of clarified a bit, IT as a Help Desk, or Technical Support...

At least you don't have to work unpaid overtime like in vfx industry for lower than average pay

One is psychological, the other one is physical.... If you're good at not giving a fuck IT, if you're strong factory

IT is boring and factory work is hard work for shit pay. I did enjoy the work I did at a factory assembling Gear trays. It was fun. But like I said it was hard work for shit pay.

understood that, but I was like programming is still IT.. So let me just apply that to it.

I would be mildly okay with a job in IT support.

Factory work is utterly horrible id rather be under-appreciated than to have a job stood 10 hours a day lining up carboard boxes

What sucks is that, even as a programmer, or anything high up, you still have to deal with people and do Technical Support. There is no getting away from it :/

Or you're stuck as Technical Support, yet you're maintaining servers too... And writing SQL scripts... Get paid half of what you should be getting paid...

I'd love to find a place that actually respects and recognizes what we as IT actually do... and what it takes to do it.

The only thing I dislike about Factory work is it's so repetitive, but I love the OT you get.

I honestly feel more respected at Factories than I do at my IT Jobs...

It can be, people with temp companies tend to get the shit end of the stick though...

If you're hired straight on it can normally be pretty good.

At least in IT, you can use an emulator to play Pokemon from a pen drive.

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

Arguing with religious people is like explaining to your mother that online games can't be paused...

It's rare I encounter an IT helpdesk tech that's actually useful for anything more complicated than resetting a password. Of course this is mostly HP helpdesk I am dealing with.

Programming is more Computer Science than it is IT. And Computer Science pay is on par with Engineering pay.

Would you prefer an IT Job or a Factory job?

I'm honestly starting to hate my life as IT... Lol...

It still amazes me how shitty people treat IT. Especially on site IT Teams...

thats life ....  most people dont understand how important the it is ...and that almost nothing would work if noone would look for servers etc

people just dont understand how complicated everything works... they just want to "use" the pc and blame you for their fails, in case something doesnt work

sometimes the fortune is on your side and the "bigger" companies tell the smaller ones about IT and how much they should respect and support them in what they do

my mate as a example works as an IT guy at vw and "volkswagen"-headquarters told their traders etc about how important IT is and how f***ed they'd be if something wont work how it shoul, the result was that the boss increased the budgets for important projects

you dont have to understand everything, but if you're able to tell the boss about the importance well enough they pay ;)

if the boss knows how hard the work is they'll pay a good price

Shop embedding can be useful for engineers to learn how production processes work. Often you'll find engineers trying to do something that physically won't work even though it might on paper.
