First car accident

CalebTheEternal

So I was heading to school after waking up a bit late and I was pulling into the parking lot trying to park (duh) and a guy was driving through the parking lot spaces (MS Paint skills incoming) and came out of a spot and pulled out right in front of me, about (EDIT) 5-10 yards, which is not enough time to react and stop. He didn't stop his car, he continued to park and got out of his car and walked to class. I stood there confused whether I should call the police or not for what I think is a hit and run. He eventually came out of his class and I got his information. No police was contacted, but he didn't have his license on him. He drew a picture of him pulling out in front of me and said it was his fault, but I couldn't get any witnesses to verify this because we were already late to class and people were bolting for the doors. My car isn't too bad, but his is dented to hell, but I don't think my car can do this kind of damage as I was only going 15 MPH and I barely even got a small dent and some scratches. I will provide some pictures and some help on what to do would be appreciated. I never called the police, and never contacted school security either. Did I screw up on making this decision?

Getting any kind of compensation will be hard without a police report but the fact there is no report also means he can't really claim you owe him damages. It's not the worst but for future reference, always call the police. These are things you want official records on.

Always call the police and your insurance company, take photos of the accident, and show the road junction etc

You will struggle to claim anything off him, so will have to  pay for any repairs

You have his information, so if only you submit it, they would see him as guilty since he did not report anything and clearly trying to hide it

Sheesh. His car must have been made by apple and yours made by nokia. This is why my dad uses his phone as a dashcam. I would go to the police and tell them as much information as you can, telling them first will tell them that you do not intend on trying to hide the situation.

I already figured it would be hard to get any compensation since it was in a parking lot. I didn't really want to call the police since he didn't have his license and it wasn't that bad of a wreck and you can tell that it wasn't my fault. Even if he did technically do a hit and run? After we hit and moved his car and walked away fast.

I also got him to confess that it was his fault.

No, not really. That's how my classes taught me how fast to drive, and what my parents said. It wasn't crowded, we were like the only cars. Also 15 is probably faster than what I was going. I was probably like 10, if that.

You are not the police so cannot submit verbal evidence, he would have to say it to the police/insurers/court

if he did a hit and run but you drove away from the accident, moving the cars and any evidence of it happening

That said, his car is fucked, yours is fine, he lost out here, maybe his car is stolen or not worth his time fixing or he doenst car

either way you should always immediately call the police and insurance and inform them, you never know if you have been injured somehow, or or something not obvious has happened to your car and a few days later it breaks down, and your back hurts and you have no compensation

He's at fault. You had the right of way, same thing as if you're making a turn, or pulling out of a driveway. You should have notified the police honestly, if you really cared about minor damage like a dent and had a nice car.

Half a kM away? Where did you get that? He pulled out about 5 yards in front of me, if that, he ran into me, a slight t-bone if you would say. He slowly drove into me.

No, he ran into me, kind of, it's hard to explain, a diagram would be better. But he ran into me in reality, and I just called the police and some officers are on the way.

It doesn't matter if he should have seen him pulling out. The guy pulling out is still at fault, anyone driving past has the right of way. Same thing as pulling out of a driveway. You don't just pull out of your driveway when there's 4 cars barreling down the street about to pass your driveway, and then expect them to stop nicely for you so you can get out, now do you?

Cheap cars vs Quality cars.

Choose wisely, it might save your life.

A few days ago an accident took place under my house (11th floor i live at).

2 Cars rammed into each other pretty hard.

The speeding driver skidded 8-13 metres away from the impact and the slow car moved 3 metres .

The dude in the speeding car was injury free(maybe some bruises) and the poor slow car that was hit trying to turn to the right had the front utterly destroyed.

The driver of the slow car fainted and it took the passerbys quite a while to drag him out.

Moral of the story, don't go for cheap cars. You might be a lawful driver, but that doesn't matter much on the road if someone isnt.
