1080p vs 1440p in a 27inch Monitor.

It's Christmas time, I'm looking to sell my Xbox ONE and my two current Monitors and just finally make the switch to PC gaming fully and get a bigger monitor. I'm currently playing on 23.6 inch monitors, just one for games of course, I'm looking at getting a 27inch or 32inch monitor to play on. My main concern is does 1080p look like crap on 27 inch and above monitors for PC gaming? My GPU can't even handle 1440p so I know that would be one issue, I'd still have to play majority of my games at 1080p regardless which I don't mind. I actually like 1080p and I've seen friends play on 1440p monitors and just from first glance I couldn't really tell a difference. Can anyone else tell a difference from the two resolutions on those size monitors? I plan on upgrading my CPU and GPU come tax return season but even then I'd still rather get the best performance I can when playing games.

I guess the main question is should I just go ahead and get a 27inch 1440p or just get a 27inch 1080p monitor? Another thing, do 1080p games look like crap on 1440p monitors? I'm only going to be getting a GTX 970 when I upgrade my GPU so I know I won't be getting stable 60fps on all games set at max settings if I play at 1440p.

Thank you SO much for any help I receive. This has been a massive pain in my ass trying to decide which would be better for me and which I should actually get.

it will be fine at 27 inches, it would be a bit silly to but a monitor your pc cant handle if you have no intention of upgrading soon...

but a 970 might be able to handle 1440p, but im not sure... sorry... my friend has a solid 60 fps on 1080p with a 970 and i have a reasonably solid 60 fps at 3440x1440 so id assume that you could handle it

1440p is better looking. But more demanding too.

If you notice a difference between 1080p and 1440p as a big difference, then get the 1440p monitor. Personally, I would get the 1080p since i cant see a difference between them, maybe cause my eyes are shit lol

Yeah, I'm like half blind in one eye and from the monitors I've looked at I can't see a difference between the two. I can barely tell a difference between 30 and 60 fps in some games. That's how crap my eyes are.

R9 390 for a 1440p monitor

I'm going with Nvidia because I have a Shield. So AMD is not an option.

I remember seeing a 4k monitor for the first time. I was too distracted by my first experience with a 144Hz monitor, one of the guys at the booth at Pax pretty much had to pull me away and be all like "Here's this 4k super-awesome pro-colour monitor worth like 2 1/2 grand"

If you want a bigger screen though get the 1440p, 1080p monitors at that size, you can see the pixels if you're sitting too close (Hence why 1080p TVs look fine, you don't sit right in front of them)
