Water Cooling FX5950 for extreme overclocking Question

I have not built a custom loop for around 2 years, as have got on fine with closed systems...

However I need more cooling now, so here is the plan...

This Idea is for a CPU only loop. As I will run separate self contained loop for VRM & GPU using rads inside case..

If I want to use an external rad like the Phobya Nova 1080 (please feel free to recommend)

Option 1

Wall mounted, bottom of rad about 30cm from the top of the case, so around 1m 20cm from the base of case where the pump would be.

Option 2

Wall mounted as above but have  a "pump room" which is on other side of wall in ventilated closet which houses my servers & UPS witch would have a drop of 50cm from the pump to the CPU block but more or less level with rad.

Question:

What is the best pump to use when high lift & flow is required...

Recommendations also needed for CPU BLOCK, and Quick Connects.

Thanks for your assistance..

"Laing D5 Strong" would be a good pump for this. Yes, it's the standard pump everyone recommends but it's the best that's available everywhere and fit for watercooling. The strong version also offers a sizable boost in performance.

Look at the new Koolance black Quick disconnects, they look amazing. Considering some myself. Costly though...

The position of the pump isn't that important. A 50cm drop is very small. Most cases are about 50cm tall.

Thanks for that Ghost,

Could I possibly trouble you for a link for that pump so I know which one you mean..?

Will more or less go for the pump room idea, as I can have a very large reservoir for some good thermal mass.

There are other re-badges out there that are no worse than this. Afaik the koolance one is easiest to find.

Ye i would get a powerful pump for the distance and also Phobya make rad stands for their 1080 rad so you could just put the rad on the same surface as the case by it and run it like that.

Ye they are a good idea. I was going to make myself a big cube case because I had some time off work but alas it never was. It was gonna have support for a 1080 rad and also 2 480 rads and big reservoirs and much much more.

I think big reservoirs are very under rated, as they add thermal mass, Its the same principle of solar house heating systems I have designed but instead of storing hot water your storing cooled water....

Would like to see my FX9590 try and heat up 5L of water in a hurry LOL

I had the 1260 phobya rad:

-poor quality, arrived with costmetic damage

-ally rad (new revision is copper i think?)

-slow leak from fillport

-the holes drilled in the stand are only useful for phobya/ek dcp pump mounting as far as I can tell. And it's solid steel or something because it was a bugger to drill.

Benefits: 4x200m fans = silent, never had to turn them up and temps were low.

If you're going this route I would recommend looking for a better brand of big rad (Mo-Ra from Watercool as they make awesome products)

Parts are starting to come in... :)

So want to finalise my loop design, the above guide is what I figure is best for avoiding any air locks.

This is the final layout when its in place like photo with rad on desk for now (wall later),

FYI. during the set-up and first fill the rad will be lower than the res... (under desk)

Any thoughts?
