Does increasing GPU fan speed reduce the temps of the gpu heatsink?

First of all my gpu is the EVGA GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0 !

 

So I would just like to know if increasing the gpu fan speed reduces the temperature of the heatsink? For example if I put my gpu fan speed from 30% to 50% while gaming, will that prevent the heatsink from heating up a lot fast? Keep in mind Im not talking about the GPU itself, but specifically the heatsink?

In theory yes, but probably not to where you could tell the difference by touch.

well the heatsink is stuck to the GPU...thats what cools it...

 

so yeah, cooling one thing cools the other

thats how it keeps the GPU from overheating

 

fans cool down the heatsink, not the GPU

the heatsink cools the GPU

Heatsink is designed to disperse heat. Therefore, yes it should lower the temperature.

Im asking because my gpu fans are making this strange noise after 30 to 60 minutes of gaming! And there are a small pack of cables that connect the gpu itself with the gpu fans ... and they are just behind the gpu fans so i think that they make contact with the fans and that makes the noise! The noise doesnt come right away tho... 30 to 60 minutes after the fans are spinning and the game is running it starts... so i think that after those 30 - 60 minutes the heatsink gets really warm and expends a little and the cables make the contact with the fans then and the noise comes! IN gaming while everything is left on auto .. my gpu temp is around 70C with fans being around 30% .. so im gonna try to put them to 50% and see if the noise occurs after some time gaming! Basicly im trying to prevent the heatsink from expending at all :D

Since the fans are small, you could be experiencing coil whine. My old motherboard had two fans built in for water cooling and I had to turn them off because after playing for 1-3 hours, you could hear this weird annoying noise.

Since the fans are small, you could be experiencing coil whine. My old motherboard had two fans built in for water cooling and I had to turn them off because after playing for 1-3 hours, you could hear this weird annoying noise.

I dont think its coil whine .. its different sound!

 

Here is the noise that it makes!

It sounds like fan is hitting the cable, but I could be wrong. I'd take the GPU out and search for anything that looks like it would hit the fan while it spins. If there's nothing there, it must be related to the fan itself and I wouldn't worry about it, unless it annoys you.
