So after watching the LTT videos about the history of Intel and AMD processors on Vessel I was inspired to do something a hell of a lot different than my typical build. May I introduce you to-

 

DREAM MACHINE 98'

 

PURPOSE

I'm going to be building a high end gaming PC from 1998, the year I was born. Here are the components of choice, taken from a Maximum PC magazine from September of 1998, a month prior to my birth.

  • 10GB Segate 10,000RPM Cheetah Drive

I used to remember Abit mobo but i think they were for AMD Thunderbirds

 

Deschutes was the king of the P2 lineup till P3 came along

What games do you guys think I should try and run on this? Definitely Half Life and Baldurs Gate.

Because it would be an awesome and fun experience. I've made several videos about old hardware and actually own two very old GPU's, the ATI Rage, and NVIDIA TNT.

Starcraft 2 was released in 2010, so nope.

 

Though starcraft 1 came out in 1998, and diablo 2 came out in 2000. (Diablo 1 was 1996)

Starcraft 1 and Diablo are definitely on the list too, any idea what the most graphically intensive game from 98 was? I'm thinking like quake or one of those games my be pretty taxing.

in 1998 the Voodoo2 GPU was released in Feb

 

good luck finding one and it still working

 

 

I only remember my 486PC which my dad got from his office

 

then we went for the Pentium 166MHz with the Turbo button

 

i skipped the P2 and went for the PIII Coppermine which was my actual gaming PC with the Creative Graphics Blaster Geforce Pro with 32MB of DDR RAM

U can try such games as: Half-Life, Starcraft, Rainbow Six, Fallout 2, Quake 2 and 3, Thief the dark project, Tomb Raider 3, Crazy Taxi, MechWarrior 3, System Shock 2 and Unreal Tournament.
