Really cheap 50$ triple monitor setup

JoeCoke

Going to the Goodwill every now and then will pay off. The 4:3 Dell monitors were 10$ each, the widescreen was 20$ and I bought a VGA to DP adapter from amazon for 10$. So if you're broke (like me) and want a triple monitor setup, hit up the goodwill.

Now of course you won't be doing Nvidia surround on this setup, and you'll also need to be sure your GPU/GPUs support more than two monitors.

I see these Dell monitors all the time at goodwills for next to nothing.

Man I super hate 4:3. I have 3 monitors, but I just use one monitor and one TV. It's a really nice set up.

Also, Goodwill is a really good place to get monitors (sometimes) and cases.

I've gotten 7 monitors from various Goodwill stores in my area, x3 4:3 1024x768, x3 1440x900 and x1 1366x768(most expensive was $30). FYI for anyone who wants to give it a spin, depending on the store they may still put out a monitor that is damaged but still works so be sure to bring something that you can hook it to to check it out or ask if they can plug it up to be sure it works and the panel isn't fucky. It would also be wise to bring along any adapters you think you might need if you don't have your own laptop to bring.

The widescreen is DVI, just keep your eye out, you'll find one. :)

Not bad for $50.

I've spent roughly $150 total on my triple monitor setup, two of the monitors were free, though I had to fix one, and then buy some cables and adapters, but right now I've got:

1920x1080 24"

1680x1050 22.5"

1600x900 20"

It's decent, though the 1600x900 monitor has shit colours and has pretty thick bezels, and yeah...

Yea only one ended up being slightly fucky but it was my fault for not checking it, most stores wont do a refund and will never do an exchange for a similar item. Hence my suggestion of taking a laptop or asking for it to be plugged up. Also make sure it's to a running system not just to a wall.

My setup at one point, now I'm only running four widescreen monitors.

What on earth do you use on all of those monitors?

I multitask like a boss, also like I said I'm only using four displays now. I gave one to my sister and the others that I'm not using are in my closet. I actually want more than four monitors but the wiring was a nightmare because I didn't have enough power plugs and long enough display cables. I'm planning on going back to at least six when I get moved into out new house in about a year.

Makes me want to go to Goodwill again. Almost. Never again. The last time I went there, the employees barely spoke english and whenever a fresh cart came out of the doors with items that just came in all the hispanic women would run over and dig through it. It's crazy in there.

try to stick to the ones in the better area's, at least here that seems to net you better stuff overall and it makes monitors and other hardware that's worth more likely.

lol, True. It also smells like shit in there sometimes. But it's so worth it, where else could I get this setup for so cheap? And one time I found a game called Nascar season 2003 racing for 2$, I sold it on ebay for 90$.
