Is the 980 a good deal?

Jerombolo

Do you guys think it's worth to buy the 980 for 1080p gaming? And what do you think how long it lasts until I would have to buy a new GPU again to play on Ultra?

A 980 isn't worth it in general if you're paying over $500 USD for it. Either go for a an R9 FURY for around $500 USD or a 390X (little less performance) for $400 ($100 LESS!)

I used to be quite active here.

At what price? At the normal price: meh. Would rather go for an R9 390X at that point and you will be good for 1080p for just as long.

For 565CHF

Or a 970 for 375CHF

Swiss Franc right?

Price is kinda close to each other with these two (closer than in most other parts of the world), but what are the prices on the AMD cards? Particularly the R9 390 and 390X. Maybe even the R9 Fury. (Not X or Nano)

Yeah Swiss Franc. I can get a 390 for about 350CHF, an X for 440CHF and the Fury for about 580-600. 390 and X are from Gigabyte. Cheapest I can see on first look. Just watched a Fallout 4 1080p ultra comparision between 390 and 970. 970 is stable at 60fps whilest 390 dipes from time to time and struggles to keep 60

Seems like best value are the 970 and the 390. I heard some people say Gigabyte's AMD cards are not the best though.

And yeah, saw the 390 vs. 970 Fallout 4 benchmark. I'm not sure if they have been able to fix this yet.

But the GTX 980 is really not a bad value as well. Priced fairly competitive.. I'm not sure what to recommend in this case..

Hmm. I think I'll buy a 970 if I'm even going to buy something. Maybe for christmas^^ And I don't want to spend my whole paycheck on a card^^ But there's the 13th paycheck next month so that will be a little extra money :D

If you plan to stick to 1080p for next time then the GTX970 would work just fine. The card has enough raw computing power for FHD for the next 1 or 2 years. No R9 390X or GTX980 needed.
