Massive Derp, Do I have enough Watts?

Boss1295

Hey,

Jut got a new GPU, a PowerColor PCS+ Radeon R9 380 4GB, and I'm wondering if my PSU has a high enough wattage, I'm running an E8400 and I've got a Corsair VX 550.

I think I do, but I want to make sure.

Thanks.

you are fine , but the 380 will be very limited by your cpu.

You're fine. Your CPU may limit your card a little bit, but you've got enough wattage.

I know, I'm planning a complete system overhaul over the next ~9 months, but I'm strapped for cash and screen tearing on Linus's face is mind breathtakingly annoying.

I know, I'm gonna fix it, but I needed the GPU upgrade first.

I knew I should have mentioned that in my OP.

Pretty much.

I inherited this machine from my older brother a couple of years back when he moved out, he built himself a new one, and I kept this one (had been running with 2 laptops and an extra monitor before), and I'm finally getting around to upgrading it. It was built in 2007(I think) and is hence pretty old. I'm a cheap grad student soon to be fleeced by medical school, and don't have much cash. Got an extra monitor (so 2 now) and have screen tearing issue doing daily tasks, so I needed the GPU upgrade. I plan on replacing parts here and there until I can nab a MoBo, CPU and Ram combo later down the line, at which point I hope to change the case (the current one is f-ugly) and I'll be good.

Pretty much.

I've added all my own peripheral (2 monitors, 5.1 channel audio, headphones, keyboard and mouse), and have finally garnered the cash to start the train of internal upgrades
