Yes, Asus is legendary as far as motherboards go :P

If you want a WS grade board definitely go Asus, but really, for anything else just find a board with good reviews in the price bracket you have

Because $700 for two more cores

Two physical cores, there are four additional threads.

i7-4790k @ 4.7GHz, 16GB DDR3 @1866MHz, MSI Gaming X 8G GTX 1080@2060MHz, 500GB SSD, 2TB Raid 0 HDD, 240GB Raid 0 SSD, EVGA SuperNOVA 850W PSU, Fractal Design Define R5 Windowed

"and i'm dreading this because of the cost"

 Its still $700 for two cores, regardless of HT

You could get a second 5820k and a dual socket x99 board for the price of one 5960x

A 5820k will crush video editing, rendering, gaming and anything else you can throw at it

You start to stray from a good price/performance ratio when you go to a 5960x

awesome. so what about the 6700k. i know it's only 4 core but how's it in comparison to the 5820k especially when it has integrated graphics ? also i've heard that socket 2011 is beeing phased out and the 1150 series is in. is it safe to go for a 2011 socket when future proofing?

Socket 2011 is the high end platform made for enthusiasts and people who need more performance (more than 4 cores). Socket 1151 is probably going to stay in the 4 core 8 thread "realm" in the upcoming future. 2011 socket is going nowhere so don't worry :)

1151---> up to 4 cores and 8 threads

2011--->from 6 to 8 cores and 12 or 16 threads

TLDR: For rendering and other apps that can utilize 6 cores get the 5820k. If you are going to do gaming only get the 6700k
