This is purely out of interest would a system with a 980ti and 4670k have a higher fps/performance per dollar then a cheaper used build?

Just got finished watching scrapyard wars

Best FPS/dollar right now for 1080p gaming without overclocking? I vote i5-4460(6500) and 380x

I'd say R9 290 is better than the 380X in terms of price/performance, as for the CPU would be a used i7 2nd/3rd gen, OR if we're talking new, an overclocked Athlon X4 860k. From the i5's it would be the i5-4590 (it's only 5$ more expensive on pcpartpicker than the 4460)

It depends on what you compare it against.

If you compare the 4670k + 980ti system, then you will greatly outperform the Scrapyard Wars systems. But their price to performance will still kick the butt of the 4670k + 980ti system. The best price:performance is often found with the mid-range graphics cards. Something like the R9 380 and similar graphics cards.

Edit: Just a 4690k and a 980ti goes for about $850 together. That's way too much to make it competitive in terms of price to performance.

performance per dollar is a horrible way to decide on parts

you will end up getting a 10 year old CPU and GPU for $40 that runs games like carp, it will still be better fps per dollar than a current CPU+GPU

you should first decide on a budget, THEN decide what parts to get with that money

It's actually valid to use price to performance when you decide what parts you want. As long you get somewhat new parts. Something like the Q6600 have been used for more than one system in the Scrapyard Wars series. And if you have a limited budget, then it's still a somewhat decent chip. But I personally would recommend a newer generation (if we are still talking Intel, then something like the 2500k or better).

I'm perfectly happy with my build I was just wondering what is the fps per dollar king

well technically a PC that you pick up for $0 at a dump that works will win at fps/dollar

because it cost $0

so you divide like 1fps/0 and you get infinity

which is better than any other PC possible

so yeah, fps per dollar is not a way to calculate stuff

Im a total newbie but here are the things that i've been researching.

Processor: i5 4590 and i5 4460

GPU: R9s 380 / 380x / 280x / 285 / 280

I will go to the PC Parts shop now and check their prices on our country.

Depending on their price here, I will build my own value midrange pc. Hehe.
