well  the title says it all. i want you guys opinion and winch one is overall better then the other.

If they are the same price, then go for the 5820K. It'll make multitasking easier, and if a game uses more than 4 cores, it'll be super handy.

youll get no gain in performance get a better gpu with the saved cash but overall a 6700k

There is extra performance to gain, it's evident in many games. Gta 5 definitely gets a boost.

Go watch digital foundry videos, there's plenty that show i7 does benefit gaming.

not to the point where youll need it though the difference of 180hz to 200hz wont be noticeable on a 60hz monitor let alone a 144hz

then you want a 6600k you have no use for an i7 or more cores

^^Best answer.

i5 > i7 strictly for gaming. There's a $100 difference for literally nothing, and in some cases, less than nothing.

The only game engines on the planet where you will see any sort of return from hyperthreading is Frostbyte (because of outdated tesselation running on CPU rather than GPU which is what all games going forward do now and will do) CryEngine (for unknown reasons probably related to spaghetti code) and DreamWorld Engine by Funcom (The Secret World, also running Gen 1 tesselation)

Open world games with a lot of AI can also benefit from hyperthreading, but not as much as they would with the lost 0.1~0.2 Ghz overclock.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

The last 10 or so big games on gamegpu.ru show a pretty sizeable shift towards preferring more cores, certainly the i7 over the i5. My issue with the site right now is it doesn't have Skylake and quite a few places have been showing Skylake is actually amazing for games compared to Haswell (like DigitalFoundry). Neitherless its a great site for showing just how far gaming has come in terms of using more cores, almost all games show some amount of benefit going from i5 to i7 to i7 6core. The problem is Haswell is pretty old and Skylake is likely right now better for more than 50% of the big titles (and certainly better for the smaller ones), so I think its swayed towards Skylake currently but I don't have a direct comparison.

If you live near microcenter or if you can price match the 5820k for cheap, you're better off with it. Get a well-rounded build, gaming and maybe workload.

I'd go for the 6700K simply because 4 cores is enough for 90% of users and the single threaded performance will normally give you higher FPS in games. Also it's cheaper...

6700k if you won't ever be rendering or editing or doing anything that would love the beastly hyper threading the 5820k offers

I know personally I would get a 5820k, as far as bang for buck performance and such goes

But the 6700k will be more than enough for most people
