What are the biggest benefits from jumping to Nvidia?

PlayStation 2

Really hard to tell with the numbers jumping from 300ish to 350s. I loaded Fallout 4 because I have a save that puts you in a spot that uses 100% GPU and 30% CPU. Steady and I mean steady 342w.

340W - 20W more than the bench - taking into account chip binning and ASIC as well as margin of error I'd say it's accurate.

And when I say I have a few case fans ans some LEDs going as well, I fuckin mean it  . Yes, those fans are outside the case, yes that's for push pull. Yes, it's cool.

That's a 60W difference - 60W is about 20% of 300W - basically the 970 system draws 20% less - see how the 50% thing is not possible?

And 70% is far far far from possible. I hate how people always say the 970 draws nothing in power because of the low TDP but there isn't much difference between the 290x and the 970 in actual power draw.

Edit: Re-read your comment and came to the conclusion that you meant that the 970 draws about 70% of the power the 290x does, right? Not meant against you then ^^

The fluctuations are expected, each image rendered does not require the same amount of work, some have less or more to do than others.

Valley is one such, the fluctuation of FPS should be the obvious give-away.

The other thing might well be the PSU,,, power save features might well be stepping up or down. And on that note, there is also the incremental loss from the wall to the card,,, hence the 80+ ratings on PSU's now.

Its not my fault I am grumpy, you try having a porcelain todger that's always hard!

Worrying about wattage usage is like worrying about the MPG of your Hot Rod. I got my wattage meter because I was genuinely concerned my PSU wasn't enough for crossfire, and 750w was enough. But Seriously.

Was PhysX mentioned?

AMDs run it as some games require it.

PhysX runs off the CPU 99% of the times

I just want to mention the game AMD are selling (Battlefront) is among the most well-optimized games of 2015 - unlike Batman or FO4 *cough* Nvidia *cough*

Weren't a lot of people up in arms over Battlefront being a shit "Battlefront" game though?

Plus, there isn't much "optimizing" with that game.

  • Frostbite already runs pretty well
  • There isn't much to optimize since the maps aren't "open world" like Fallout

Overhyped? Most definitely

Bad? Nah

Still runs better than FO4 or Batman :)

Lets just not even use the word overhyped. They didn't deliver on what the game should have been.

But basically you're saying that's okay just because it runs better?

I'm not saying that - it's a decent game on it's own - it just doesn't live up to the expectations they set and the pricing model is retarded.

Battlefront ran like silk, if that silk was draped over my ex wife looking for her check this month. *translation, game ran fine but I hated it.*

The answer to this question is dependent on individual needs. I made the switch to Nvidia awhile ago and will probably never look back. I had some horrible experiences with AMD though. The issues I had with my 290 were the final straw for me. Everyone will have different experiences though. With that comes different opinions. In my opinion, there is no one answer to the OP's question without knowing their needs.

You can't be serious.  Hyperthreading is a market joke?

Shadowplay and game stream. Lower TDP. Drivers for nvidia has been poopie lately, even with day-1 drivers.

Honestly, if you can't get 980ti- pickup a comparable AMD gpu instead since they have price to performance.

@physX: Some games have the PhysX option only for nVidia - for example fancy hair and stuff :D
