Budget expectations rant

linuxfan66

I'm sick of people wanting impossible performance yields from ultra low budget builds upgrades(often wanting new parts too)

I live in oz as you may or may not know but the used part market here is overpriced old out of production gpu models people want 300/400/500 bucks for. And while pcs with first gen core i7s go for 700+ bucks.

People don't seem to under depreciation and you get what you pay for. If it were a car they would get that but not pcs...

My issue is with the people's behaviour more thinking I can provide magical miracles for impossible budgets

Overpriced used market is a secondary concern

Not even worth to go for used parts, unless you know a friend that would do it cheap for you.

I feel your pain, but from the other perspective. Where I live, people underprice used hardware. For example, a year ago a barely managed to sell my X79 ROG board for like 125 euros, because everything is too damn cheap. Hell you can find a 3970X with a decent X79 board +16/32GB of RAM and a GPU (290X, for example) for as much as 800-1000 euros...

Still, people don't know better, some people can barely turn a computer on, let alone understand the price of components and things

people are ignorant, it will never change

I guess assuming people understand currency is too much to ask. You have a point.

Those people are better off going console often I suspect...

i live close to NYC and the used PC hardware on cragislist and ect is not much of a selection and prices are way higher then they should be so i understand that honestly have no idea how Scrapyard wars would ever work where i live.  but you just sound annoyed that someone who is asking you because they dont have knowledge doesnt have knowledge about the parts cost and performance. Hence why there asking for advice

People just dont understand what things cost, I bet if I asked my mum what a graphics card was she couldnt guess,

Just like I dont know the price of car parts or bits in my engine, and I go to my mechanic and have a heart attack at the prices, I must appear to him to be a complete retard

But that is just how it goes

Your WAY WAY better off using Aussie Facebook PC enthusiast groups for 2nd hand parts.

I know I know.... FB sucks, but I've seen 4x 7950's today go for $90-100 AUD each as an example.

On Gumtree, they would be $140-250 depending on the tard selling them.

More likely to get results YOUR after.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Well you couldn't with Gumtree either, and pricing is better on FB groups.

Either way you look at it, the risk is there on all 2nd hand gear no matter what you do.

Yep. The going range for them the last 2 months or so I've seen around is $90-120 for a HD7950, and most people reply to the person with the same notion of pricing.

If its stated they want $160 for one, they either get ripped to shreds, or told why it wont sell quickly, or at all. (Depending on the group)

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

The risk is there on ALL 2nd hand cards, moreso on AMD due to bitcoin mining, esp on these popular bitcoin monsters.

But you either accept that, or don't try.
