Is it just me

FlawlessKasper

Is it just me or is the WD blue 1tb a loud hard drive (hopefully it's just the hardrive so I can buy a new one) ? I can hear the pc even from the other side of my room pretty well.

Thats not a good sound, nor sign. If it is making loud sounds like that something is wrong with the drive. HDDS should be only making slight spinning sounds and such.

not like random loud sounds, imagine having like 100 fans turned on at the same time, the spinning is pretty loud at least for my tastes.

Hey there FlawlessKasper,

It is not normal for a WD Blue to be that loud. I would recommend to back everything important up to another drive and run WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic and see if the drive passes both the quick and the extended tests. Here's a link: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=7XOIwc
You can also use a tool to get the raw values of the S.M.A.R.T. status in order to get a more detailed information regarding the drive's condition.
Also make sure the drive is mounter properly and firmly in its place and that it's not causing and vibration and does not resonate with the case.

Will do it later. Should I do the quick test or full test?

Both:

- The quick one tests the basic I/O processes of the drive and the S.M.A.R.T. and should be complete in under a minute

- The extended one checks the sectors of the drive and should fail if there's a bad or unreadable one. This one will take quite long (several hours or even more - depending on the drive's capacity).

Some drives are just loud then others. Samsung Spinpoints (before seagate purchased this division of Samsung), where the best drives in every except 2. 1. they ran hot, you can get away with a consumer WD running with little to no airflow, with these you could feel the heat radiate out from them. and 2. They where loud.

It isn't anything to be worried about, just make sure the drive is level (i.e. don't have it running on a 45 Degree angle or anything like that)

If the drive passes the test then it should be safe to use. As I suggested, you can get a more detailed info on its condition by getting the raw values of the S.M.A.R.T. status with a third-party tool. If you are not sure how to read them feel free to post them here.
It is unusual for a WD Blue drive to be excessively loud. I would contact our Live support and ask the guys there if you can apply for a RMA procedure and get the drive replaced. Here's a link: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=ky36vN

no thank you then, don't want to contact anyone for this, always had an experience with these kinds of things where in the end it would just be a waste of time. I bought that Hard Drive off Ebay so I doubt I can get a new one replaced. This is kinda annoying now because I wanted to buy a mic but now I know that it will 100% pick up this hard drive sound I doubt I will buy it, ffs.

You can check the warranty status of the drive here: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=NlAAEz
If the drive has any warranty left, it is easy to contact our live support and simply RMA the drive and get a replacement. :)
The website that you got it from should also provide a warranty period that you can return it or exchange it.

I have the same problem. I have an SSD and an HDD. I have the HDD unplugged.

If your hard drive is that loud when it's unplugged, you have more serious issues to worry about.
