hiya guys, since fallout 4 has just been released and will not work, its the straw that broke the camels back, my current rig consists of r9 290 xfire, 16gb ram and a 8350 i seem to have bad performance in most games and get the occasional freezing and general annoyances, because my monitors freesync and because i don't think AMD graphics cards are bad in part, i wont be changing those but i have come to the conclusion shit or bust and have decided to change my cpu to intel, i dont want to spend too much because i have thrown money at this build and and quite frankly sick of it. so my question i5 4690k and an asus maximus v11 hero? or can i do better for the money. Before people tell me dont bother, i am at my wits end i have tried everything to get my performance in multiple games up (fallout 4, gta, mad max until i changed the power options to max) ive tried drivers, ive tried fresh installs, ive tried overclocking the cpu it just wont. It has a h100i and the 8350 will become unstable over 4.2ghz. by bad performance in games i means lower than intel cpu fps, i mean massive fps drops for no good reason, my gta on mainly max settings runs around 40fps with dips to 30 and it doesnt matter if i change the settings to low it has the same performance, by this rant/question im sure you can tell im just about ready to throw the towel in.

cheers for any responses and help, i really do wanna be part of the pc master race lol but the effort and stress is too much. thank you

To be completely honest, why did you get an 8350 and a 390 together. That's your problem. Get a 4690K or 6600K, and keep the 290s.

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

Local asshole and 6th generation console enthusiast.

AMD is good for GPUs but definitely not CPUs it's 3 years old so what can you expect, just upgrade to Intel

What @Dan Castellaneta said. Also, AMD drivers for FO4 are absolute shit right now. I'd wait a month to see how they turn out, first.

and an asus maximus v11 hero? or can i do better for the money.

Literally any other z97 board would be better for the money. ROG boards are overpriced to hell and back.

Anything from Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, or Asrock that supports Crossfire (which is most Z97 boards) is fine.

But regardless, your issue may lie elsewhre (issues with Crossfire maybe, an 8350 should still be able to handle most games decently).

That's not stress, that's just you not doing your research before hand. Anyhow, I don't understand how you're struggling with that setup.

Look at the settings used. They're different. I ain't saying the FX is stronger. Simply asking OP to consider carefully.

Think i know what the problem with GameGPU is, asside from the fact their benchmarkrun is like 5 seconds. They're testing 720p and low settings.

Now the 720P bit isn't an issue, but the low settings are. It means a significant lack of drawcalls that don't put the stress on the API threads.

The PClab.pl tests ultra 1080p, which gives a much more accurate representation.

1080p, with current high-end cards like the titan X is the "new 720p" for CPU benchmarks. But you NEED to run ultra settings for max. drawcalls.

THAT

...or they're just being plain disingenuous. Because those results make no goddamn sense. And neither do their GPU results. Ultra settings on AMD is gimped as hell at the moment due to driver issues (CPU overhead). 960 is outperforming the 380 by miles, simply due to the fact it's not CPU bottlenecking.

Amd gpu drivers are bad for fallout 4 :P.....BTW how many threads did we see that talked about how alot of amd cards are not working for fallout 4?

Anyway, the cpu could also be a factor like others said

AMD driver for FO4 isn't out yet... how can something that is yet to be released be bad? Elaborated

Fallout 4 depends quite a bit on RAM speed and the wonky parts of the engine - CF or SLI are not supported so that's one of your issues. The next is probably the maxed shadows. - lower them to medium and also disable godrays (Gameworks, yay!)

Because the game is sponsored by Nvidia and uses Gameworks - Gameworks and AMD are mutually exclusives. Just to correct you again :)

Didn't the green logo and news that it has Gameworks tip you off? :D

It's an Nvidia game - the same way Tomb Raider was an AMD title and Nvidia took a week or two to fix their shit and make Tress FX work properly. Difference is, even my 860M can run Tress FX whereas my 280 couldn't run Gameworks :)
