V-Moda Crossfade M-100

Was looking into getting Sennheiser Game Zero's but then I ran into these:

http://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-Crossfade-Over-Ear-Noise-Isolating-Headphone/dp/B00A39PPDK/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

Will be used mostly for gaming and casual listening.

Thoughts?

Great heaphones!!

Funny this thread popped up, I'm actually considering this pair of cans along with the Pioneer HDJ-2000s for DJing. The frequency response are similar but I've heard mixed feelings tho. Do tell me what you think of the headphones. I'm interested in hearing what you think of it.

The M-100 has somehow stayed in my collection. It's a good pair of cans, but you WILL want to replace the pads with V-Moda's XL pads. It will definitely be more "fun" compared to the G4ME Zero, especially when games are concerned. The biggest thing the M-100 will offer as opposed to the Sennies would be that with the BoomPro mic, it can easily be detached so that you can use them as headphones and they are small enough and look decent enough to take out and about without having something terribly bulky on your head.

These definitely qualify as basshead cans - lots of bass that goes down deep. Tastefully done, but worth noting.

Generally people find that these have pretty average soundstage and imaging for a closed headphone, which means that in the scheme of things they don't do amazingly at either - something to consider if you will use them heavily for immersive/FPS gaming.

semi open back, not closed.

Then technically the DT 770 is semi-open because it has a bass port. Let's just call everything semi-open if there is the tiniest possible air hole anywhere in the cups. Because it's such a useful distinction.

It's on the innerfidelity sealed wall of fame, so that's what I'll call it. V-Moda doesn't appear to market it one way or the other.

I see what you are saying. However, they do not isolate noise very well.

But that makes sence.

So what does that mean for sound pollution? I sit next to my boyfriend everyday.. will he be able to hear everything or just snippets?

This is about my normal listening volume on the M-100's recorded with an iPhone 5S held about 1foot to the left of me.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/piqt9bcahk41shh/New%20Recording%203.m4a?dl=0

This is set to a rather high volume(double the volume of the above recording) I don't personally use with the M-100's recorded with an iPhone 5S held about 1foot to the left of me.

Please excuse the server noise in the background, I'm tinkering.... lol. Hopefully this will give you even a slight idea of the M-100.

but that sound would be even lower once on my head, right? It shouldn't be able to bother someone about 4 feet from me if it's on my ears?

About 4feet away, it shouldn't, no. These recordings were with the M-100 ON my head (so what you hear is what is already on the head), not just set down somewhere, I just held the phone about 1 foot away and hit record while playing a song.

The M-100 are my travel headphones, I don't find that the noise is an issue assuming you don't listen at ear blistering levels.

Would you use these for gaming?

I have without issue, I just prefer the DT990's for gaming.

Well those seem to be Open back or I'd be more then happy to look into those as well but it just seems every article or review I've seen of the VModa's are saying not to use it for gaming unless you'll also be using it for music a lot too or it won't be worth it. I want your opinion though because you're not getting paid to review this product and are unbiased and actually use it (I'm assuming).. would you still recommend these for someone who is going to be using these mostly for gaming and more specifically FPS's? Or should I lean towards the Game Zero's that are meant for gaming or the Beyer's?

If I was using solely for gaming, I'd probably just not get the V-Moda at all, it just doesn't sound suited to the task alone with it's "sound". If you were getting it for mostly music and just a little bit of gaming here and there, then sure, but IMO not worth grabbing for gaming.

Beyer COP and Sennie G4ME Zero are both excellent sets offering varying sound signatures, but ultimately, those 2 are far better candidates for gaming setups. If I was aiming for competitive play beyond all else, I'd grab the G4ME Zero if I had to go closed. If I was wanting a little "fun" factor in games I'd definitely grab the Beyer COP without question, they have good positional audio, but the detail retrieval in a competitive game environment such as say CSGO is not quite as crisp and clear as the G4ME Zero.

And yes, there are some people that like talk about items they don't have, but I assure you I either have or have personally owned the large majority of headphones I talk about in my posts. I recently downsized my collection though and am down to the 4 pairs in the pic below, just couldn't bring myself to get rid of the M-100 or the CAL!.

I really, really appreciate you helping me with my questions. I fell in love with how sexy the V-Moda's looked and how the mic sounded which made saying no to them hard, but I guess I'll listen. I was starting to look more into the Beyer's but even though I won't be traveling much, the carrying case and fold-ability of the Sennie's is a REALLY nice plus. I'm also kind of confused on how closed back they are.. they NEED to have minimal sound pollution.. but I did like the idea that I could pair them with the VModa's Mic since the only thing I'm not impressed with, with the Sennie's is the mic. It's huge, non detachable and may need a pop filter. But I guess I'll go with the Sennie's based on your input and the fact that it just is best suited for me and my budget. Thanks!

Wish I had the money to have a collection like you and just buy all 3, ha!

In time bud :) Took me a while of working to move to positions of enough pay to afford to buy what I want without financial consequence.

And yea, I agree, the M-100 are a sexy headphone design without looking god awful and flashy. They are a really great headphone too, it's just comparing to the other 2 headphones on your list, it is my opinion that they don't come close in regards to gaming. Whatever you end up with, the Sennies or the Beyers, post back with your impressions :)

I wish I could comment on the G4ME Zero's sound isolation, but it's not particularly something I was testing when I had a pair. I recall them being somewhat similar to the PC350's though and being decent in that regard as far as isolation goes.
