How do I save stuff to a drive through command prompt?

wingnut

I am using windows 7. I want to save a file to my E:\ drive, in no specific folder, just E:\ . How would I go about doing that?

Save as > select E:\ > hit save

Why do you want to do it through CMD?
long story. Basically my file explorer doesn't see the drive because it isn't formatted properly and by saving a file to it, it will be.

If the above is true, command prompt write will also fail. Any way, just redirect some command out to E:

dir > e:\file.txt
