Which SMT game to start?

Thinking about trying out a game from the SMT series as I love monster battle RPGs. I'd like to keep it current so I was thinking of either going to Devil Survivor Overclocked or SMT IV, both on 3DS. What are the main differences between the games that I should be aware of? Devil Survivor looks like it has a tactics thing going on where SMT IV looks more traditional with 3D environments, so does Devil Survivor not have an overworld?

I haven't played the Devil Survivor games much at all. I've played a little bit of 2 but not much of it, so I can't comment on whether or not it would be ideal to start out.

SMT IV is a very VERY good game, and I recommend you give it a go. It's just unortunate that it never got a physical release in Europe...goddamnit Atlus...

Also, if you have a PS3, play Nocturne as well. That game will probably break you, but it is SO worth it! It plays similar to SMT IV, but a little better, IMO, and tougher as well.
