1080p 144hz or 1440p 144hz?

Zyre

Hello,

I've been using my 2333T 1080p 60hz monitor for the last 4 years and want to upgrade. Sadly I'm stuck and can't think on what to do.

My PC isn't high end. I'm on a i5 2500k, 8GB DDR3 and a MSI R9 270x HAWK 2GB.

So my pick is between two monitors. The XL2420G and the MG279Q. The BenQ is the cheapest one sitting at €479,- while the ASUS monitor is €100,- more.

I mostly play casual games, single player games for example. But I also like to play multiplayer and be good at it.

I know my 270x HAWK can't handle 1440p so I'm kind of wondering. Is the ASUS monitor worth the +€100,-?

Why I'm asking is because playing at 1080p on a 1440p will surely make it less sharp? What about 1080p windowed on 1440p?

I've asked a good friend for his opinion. His advice was to get the BenQ and spend that €100,- on something else like a new keyboard or mouse.

Hope to hear some opinions.

1080p then. Since you have a 270x

My SLI 970 doesn't hit 144 FPS on some games. If you're going to game on 1080p on a 1440p monitor you're just wasting money.

A 270x will be able to handle games like CS:GO at 1440p >100FPS, but not in demanding games. If you plan on upgrading your GPU in the relatively near future, I would get the 1440p 144Hz.

1080p on a 1440p monitor usually won't look very good, but 1440p looks a lot better than 1080p.

Yeah you have a point. I was thinking it would, you know, future proof it more.

So far I don't have plans on getting a new GPU. I'll neither probably own high end GPU like the 980ti because I can't afford €700,- for a single card. I'm always in the €300,- range like the R9 390 and 970.

If you upgrade your GPU to something like a 980ti then go for it. If not, save the money.

I don't care too much about 1440p, so I went with a QNIX 1080p 144hz.

True, there honestly isn't much different. Kind of wish I would have gotten a 144hz 1080p, but meh, It's fine, I really do love this monitor.

I don't like the glossy. Besides, I like what the BenQ offers.
