I need to know. How frequently can you upgrade the computer?

preferably once a year for major and half a year for minor, Around this time because I get around $300 from birthday and Christmas combined, all my other saving all go to food.

So the CPU is a major component that gets changed. You good with reusing the 6GB of RAM you already have or do you need 8? Do you have an SSD or do I need to factor that in?

Ok cool. What about RAM? A new GPU is probs in order as well. It depends.

Well Like I said all I want to replace is the Video/Graphics card, case and possibly motherboard which may include a CPU

I gave you a 550 watt PSU so upgrading will be slightly easier next year.

3: I think I won because he gets more wattage to work with to even possibly upgrade to a 390 later if he really wanted, and its only a smidgen more, though you did get his cooler .w. i couldnt find it

Edit: I thought the case he was mentioning was a cooler 3: gawd damn it

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Although I think I might have to stick with the lower budget of $300, although If I wait until mid January I could go with the $500 suggestions.

Also I think I should mention the things I will spend the most time doing on this device is playing DotA2 and Besiege. I just need higher than the 20 fps I am currently getting in DotA, and Besiege preferably a double in performance at least.

Oh. You could have probably gotten away with having just on-board graphics 3:

This build does seem alright, although would the Sapphire Radeon R7 2GB be decent? It is half the price.

Also that means I can get away with my current PSU probably.

Yeah, It's a bit more than I would want to spend but this is probably what I'll get.

Although it means I am going to have to be that one person that has to either ask for money, or computer parts at Christmas.

It's pretty hard to convince everyone in a family of 8, as well as cousins and 3 grandparents

Also what currency are these prices in?

K, realised these prices are in USD.

I still think I will go with the build mentioned above, although I am going to have to save up for a while, and get computer parts for christmas.

Although everyone will be annoyed at me because I will cheap out on everyone.

Meh I guess some things never change.

I have been talking to my one tech savvy brother and have come to the conclusion that I can get a almost as good PC for $200 AUD less

CPU -  i5-6400 -$269
MBD - Gigabyte B150M-D3H-DDR3 $135
VDC – r7 – 360 $159
CASE – DeepCool Tesseract - $49
PSU – antec 500w already have

will the PSU be good enough for the rest of the computer?

*Prices in AUD*
