Help Me Decide - Basic Editing Workstation that can game

Hey everyone!

I'm about to build a new system which I will use for video editing and gaming. I don't want the best system in the world, but at the same time, it isn't necessarily a budget restricted build.

I would like opinions on these parts, if there is a better option for the same price, I would like to know. If there is a cheaper option that is as good or better, I would definitely like to know.

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i GTX 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

Thermal Compound: Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver 3.5g Thermal Paste

Motherboard: Asus Z170-AR ATX LGA1151 Motherboard

Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory

Storage: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 960 4GB Video Card

Case: be quiet! Silent Base 800 w/Window (Orange) ATX Mid Tower Case

Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Wireless Network Adapter: Asus PCE-AC56 802.11a/b/g/n/ac PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter

Thanks,

C.

Get a SSD and a different PSU. Also, switch that 960 out for a 380.

380 looks good. Any reason why I would change? I know the 380 is another $50 where I am.

It is? Hmmm... Then the 960 is a better option. How much are 970s and 390s where you live?

get the 970 if you are going to use the cuda

how much are x99 mobo's and 5820k's there? if it is im similar price from skylake then go for haswell-e

He's probably not going to need the CUDA if he doesn't need an i7.

I might suggest to switch to the 1231v3 if it's any cheaper in your area.

He's going to benefit from the hyper-threading of the 1231v3 for his editing much more than the ability to overclock. Also, the 1231v3 is pretty much an i7 minus igpu and overclocking so yeah.

Didn't realize he said editing. Yes, the Xeon E3-1231 V3 is better for his situation. I was justifying that he could fit a R9-390 into his budget.
