Why does everyone recommend the 390 over the 980 even though Nvidia drivers are usually better?

HeyKitty
Go to solution Solved by don_svetlio,

390 over 970*
390X over 980*

390X is 100$ cheaper than a 980 and performs only 5% slower
390 is better than a 970 and costs the same or less

AMD drivers are fine and have been fine for 3 years now

Just curious on why so many of you say to go for the 390, while Nvidia (arguably) delivers WAY better drivers for the top AAA games.

THIS IS MY SUPER TEENY TINY SIGNATURE!

Ain't it just the cutest little signature.

Some would argue it is the cutest little signature ever.

It's not that their drivers are better now, it's that they tend to get them out quicker.

Regardless, if you're looking for price/performance, you're going to most likely always look at AMD.

I would say they are but I'm not saying the amd drivers are bad by any means.

Okay, I thought people hated AMD for their lack of driver support.  Maybe they've gotten better sense I really looked at them.

They're a lot better than the 2009 horror stories - for instance - 15.9 had a memory leak, 15.9.1 came out after a day or two and fixed it.
