How Do You Test Your Rig?

Hey everyone,

 

I am building a new system tomorrow and short of using memtest to make sure I don't have faulty memory are there any tests I can and should be doing once I boot her up to make sure all the components aren't faulty and are stable?

 

Side note, any recommended settings on the X99 BIOS (I am doing some Googling as well but ask here just in case).

AIDA64 (don't use Prime95).

 

Prime destroys hardware in some cases.

3Dmark, Valley, Heaven, AIDA/Prime 95, Cinebench.

 

And of course various games: BF4, Tomb Raider, Crysis 3.

Nope. It happens. It kills CPUs by loading them at unreasonable load tests.

Prime95? That's a very bad idea, but some CPUs don't get killed by it.

I use Unigene Heaven for the GPU, and Intel Tuning Utility for the CPU.

Prime95? That's a very bad idea, but some CPUs don't get killed by it.

A minority of cheap crap cpu maybe got grilled. Prime95 is a good tool and i will use it further.

Sigh. There is no point whatsoever in using any stress test suite other than Intel XTU.

 

It even has a mem test build in, along with two different stress methods (and benchmarking to check if your oc actually changed anything).

 

Also it is the best cpu monitoring software out there, so yea. Really no point to use anything else.

 

While at stock you can safely assume everything is working fine if you get into bios, but I'd run a few benchmarks to see your stock performance when you go to overclock.
