Can I overclock with this build?

Go to solution Solved by Fate,

You cant overclock with a H97 Mobo, you need a Z87 or Z97 to OC

You can overclock on pretty much every LGA1150 mobo with a G3258

Would this build still work with an i3?

Yes, and an i3 is a lot better.

EDIT: Will this build run well for gaming?

Depends on what you're going to play. If its just LOL, csgo or anything of the sort, you're fine.

yes you can overclock it but i would recommend an i3 .. you will run in to some games that dont like anything less than 4 cores/threads

Most intensive would probably be the newer Tomb Raider, thoughts?  EDIT: Thoughts on an i3?

You better go with at least an i3 like the 4130 or even better an i5 if you have the money.

I can see i3s being fine, but more demanding games might be a problem.

If you're really tight on budget there is AMD. but your single core performace won't be as good, you'll need a new mobo and your upgrade path is, well non existent unless you want a space heater. But you can get a 6 core for $100 ish.

Best case scenario is to get a 4460 so you get a really good cpu. But I think they're $170 US so it maybe out of your budget.

Thanks!

The 4460 is indeed out of my price range, this is why I initially wanted a $50 CPU :P
