Still can't decide to make the switch..

I really want to switch over to android from IOS but i will miss loads of things from IOS that android does not really have, like IMessage and to be able to have group chats with other IOS users. Should i really switch over or live 2 more years on IOS?

Please, for the love of whatever you believe in, use a phone (such as the nexus) that uses a vanilla version of android. If you end up not liking android, I would like for it to be because of the core OS, not what scamscum did to it.

I've had 2 iphones (4 and 5s) and I can honestly say I can't wait to get the nexus 6p. ios is very limited compared to android but ios is generally more non tech savvy friendly. There are so many cross platform alternatives for messaging such as hangouts, kik, bbm et, etc that it really doesn't matter unless your friends refuse to use another app. The overall control is better, the specs are better and you have a lot more choice when picking a device. The wearables are also way better on android cause of android wear.

I don't want a flame war but seeing Android has major security issues I would never trust banking, browsing or anything on my phone at that point. I simply use an Iphone because of Xcode, managed devs on the app store, security, and it just doesn't brick or over heat. Other then that Android seems to be fine.

But iMessage is built into the messaging app and seamlessly switches between text messages and iMessage when needed. FaceTime is the equivalent to the videochatting

I consider myself pretty tech savvy. I was on the android hypetrain way before it was really any good. However, the last 4ish years, I've been using iphones. Just a couple days ago, I started a test drive of the S6 Edge and what I can say is that, it's really disappointing the things that Android can't do on its own without apps or modifications. Maybe some things aren't immediately obvious or that I haven't poked around enough, but the things that I don't like are-

Lockscreen notifications don't turn on the screen. What use is a vibration when I have to reach over to turn on my phone to see what the notification is. 

General quality of notifications seem lower than iOS- the logo of the app in the notification is harder to recognize due to the lack of colors and the lack of quick replies and actions in notifications seem kinda strange.

Material Design sucks- pretty much every UI element is located out of reach (either on the top of the phone or top left which is unreachable for right handed users)

Performance- the phone only feels fast when there are no apps running in the background and when it chugs, it's extremely noticeable. Framerates also aren't able to stay up 60fps all the time (I can notice framerate dips very easily so pretty much any pc game that dips below 60fps is unplayable for me; call me picky)

Heat- because of the poor performance, the cpu and gpu has to run at their highest performance state to maintain acceptable performance which creates a lot of heat.

Battery life- I usually charge my phone before bed and then unplug. Losing 10% or so overnight doing nothing at all is unacceptable. I usually use my phone for 10-30 minutes before I sleep so I'll wake up to around 80% battery left which is about 10% less than a 5s would have.

But overall, I'm mostly disappointed with Android and the S6 edge in general. There are some really neat features that I've listed in my review/blog thing such as multiwindow support, facebook chat heads, and the awesome screen on the s6 but the overall experience is lacking because I expected so much more. 

 

Edit: Oh I should contribute to this rather than just offering my experience. 

If you want the fastest phone available on the planet bar none, go for the 6s; nothing even comes close because no matter what anyone else says, IPC is extremely important and the only thing that gives you great performance no matter what. Another reason to stay with iOS is that once you've invested in a platform, it's hard to move to another because you'll have to reinvest time, money, and effort into the new platform. You can easily backup your current iphone and restore it onto the brand new one and be good to go with all the same settings, files, texts, photos, and familiar user experience.

Maybe try getting a cheap android device, and seeing how you cope with it as a secondary device, you can try out apps, try out the system and get a good feel for it!

You can't really compare a skinned version of android to iOS tho. A fair comparison of android vs ios would be a nexus 6p vs an iphone 6s.The best of what each OS has to offer in terms of specs. A skinned version of android will bog down a phone more than vanilla android. I am aware of how good apple's a9 cpu is in terms of performance. it beats a core M in some cases. Anyways, android has come a long way since 4.4 kitkat, when I got my nexus 5. If you like using an iphone thats fine, they're now innovating again and have 2gb of ram (finally). but if you're looking for something different, or want a bigger screen, more customizability, or a phone with more RAM, cpu cores or more storage for a cheaper price, go with android. More specifically a nexus 6p.

This is whats so good about iMessage and the reason I like it more than every single other chat service in the world. Everyone who has an iOS device automatically uses it. Hangouts requires using a separate app and talking other people into using it. Whereas on iMessage everyone who has and iOS or Macbook is using it to communicate.
