gpu ram usage and memory usage?

so i was recording my gtx 970 things(cpu usage, temperature and all that good shit) with msi afterburner and i noticed that while playing bf4 it used:

 

memory usage(MB) : min 216, max 2062, and total amount of memory availeable was 3MB.

 

 

RAM usage(MB): min 2365, max 5279. total amount of ram was 8MB 

 

wtf ram and memory? whaat? im confused here i have 3MB memory on my gtx 970 and 8gb ram? i shit u not, please educate me a bit on this. screenshots below

I'm pretty sure the graphs just round up to the closest thousand when comparing to usage.

im pretty sure it scales though, if the game uses more the graph will adjust for that
