Help with 4k PC build

iceberg

Alright, so I would like some help creating a rig to drive a 4k monitor. I am getting ready to purchase a 4k monitor and I would like a PC to be able to run it well. I will primarily use this for simple tasks like media consumption, excel work, web browsing, etc. I would like the ability to be able to expand this in the near future to play a few games at 4k (I am really looking forward to Need for Speed coming out & by near future I mean after Christmas when I can afford a nice graphics card). The expandablity factor is why I am planing on building my own PC and not purchasing a pre-built.

My thoughts/limitations on the hardware itself include:

  • I am completely open to AMD or Intel based.
  • I would like to do the initial build for under $600 if possible.
  • I would like a mini-itx or micro-atx form for a smaller footprint.
  • I would like a case with a window so I can see the components.
  • I would like an SSD for faster boot times and application response.
  • I already have peripherals including a keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc.
  • I plan on running Windows 10.
  • I live in the USA.

Would someone be able to help me come up with a simple rig that would suit my needs/desires?

If you have any other questions, let me know.

Thanks!

What your budget? Do you need the monitor included in said budget? Do you need an OS?

Very good, but you forgot the budget.

reread the bullets in the OP

"I would like to do the initial build for under $600"

ARE YOU HIGH?

600 dollars will barely get you ONE GPU to power it, even then a SINGLE 980Ti cant keep up 60 fps on most Triple-A maxed

I said that I would like to drive a 4k monitor to start with. Not for gaming, just general usage. I would like to add one or more graphics cards down the road for gaming

ew, oh god no, you want to designed this to be upgraded.

i think people are missing the entire point of this, he would jsut need some cheap gpu just so it can render 4k. He'll get the better gpu later on so in the long run paying about $1200 give or take

Even then Q660 and a 980Ti wouldn't pair well

A 980ti costs more than the total budget....

lmao true $50 dollars more

Perhaps you should have made that a bit more clear because you won't be getting an i7 let alone an i5 on that budget...
you'd need well over $900 for a build that wouldn't bottleneck a 980Ti which again, Is the primary card for 4k right now.
