Amd Athlon X4 870k sli support?

ryan_

Hey! I'm about to upgrade my current set up with an Amd Athlon x4 870k (yes it's and upgrade for me:D) and I'm curious if this cpu supports 2 gpu configuration with a dual pci-e 16x mobo whether its and Amd or Nvidia? I hope its supports sli because I have a Msi Gtx 460 Hawk and I loved to have 2 of them (I know it's outdated but it's cheap and I don't have money for a 960)

(Sorry for poor English knowledge)

Does it? probably. Will it bottleneck so much that it wont be worth the cost of a SLI-capable mobo? Definitely.

Don't waste your money on a second 460.

to answer your question, technically you could run two cards in sli in x8 mode depending on the motherboard.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

What motherboard are you getting?

A Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-D3H have support for 2 gpus and i'ts ~$65 and you can't realy find cheaper fm2+ mobo

That mobo only supports crossfire (AMD) so you will not be able to SLI 460s on it.

Probably a Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-D3H

As mentioned, it doesn't support SLI. Only Crossfire. The technical reason behind that is the first PCIe x16 slot runs at x16, while the second PCIe x16 slot runs at x4. NVIDIA requires at least x8 for all PCIe generations.

Ahh. I did not know that. :/ Thank you for the information :)

AFAIK A88X only supports xfire as its 1 16x PCIe 3.0 and then a 4x 2.0 from the chipset.

Then it's doesn't matter what mobo i buy..

Nope, sadly not.

Even the expensive ROG Crossblade Ranger isn't certified for SLI.

Why not just buy up a used 2500K + Z77/P67/Z68 board and run with that?

actually in the past there have been motherboards that split the pcie 16x lane into two x8 ones to allow for sli. In theory, it's possible. However, on low end platforms like these the manufacturer has no incentive to pay nvidia for the SLI certification. It's just not worth the effort, so i doubt you'll find any motherboards that do it and that you can afford. You could try to get your hands on an old sandy bridge motherboard and a sandy core i3, if you can find them used within your budget.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Should I go with the Intel Pentium G3258 Anniversary edition with a beefy cooler and overclock it?

no, the money you'd spend on the cooler is better spent towards buying an i3
