Right, so.

Right now, I'm currently nearing my birthday and I plan on getting a new CPU, and as long as I know it can run Arma 3 on max settings, I'm sure I can handle other games.

CPU: A10-5700 (After November 9th, it'll be an Intel core i7 4790k 4.0GHz)

GPU: HIS AMD Radeon HD 7950 3GB (Possible upgrade)

I'm wondering whether if I upgrade my CPU can I run Arma 3 on max at around 50-60FPS?

Alright fps in single player(30 maybe), but expect 5-10 fps on multiplayer with that cpu. The i7 will do you good tho. (20-40)

Wishing leads to ambition and ambition leads to motivation and motivation leads to me building an illegal rocket ship in my backyard.

Yeah, the i7 will probably get you about 30 frames in multiplayer, which is great for ARMA III (most CPUs get like 15 FPS.)

Sweet, this is just what I wanted to hear.

But with a GPU upgrade to this https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-362-SP

Could I get around 60FPS?

The 390 is a great card, you could probably bump it to 40 FPS with it. The problem is that Arma III is horribly optimized, so either way you won't be getting crazy FPS.

EDIT- For the record, I don't play Arma III, so I don't really know. My friend does, and he said he gets decent frames with his 4770k/GTX960 combo. You should get a silky smooth 50-60FPS with those parts.

No one can run this game at 60, a computer that reliably give you 30 doesn't exist either. The issue isn't your computer its the way the game is written. I do have some detailing on why on reddit in short its mostly single threaded and unfortunately due to the amount it has to do the simulation and software side of rendering dominates the game time and frame rate.

A modest GPU can run the game but no CPU overclocked on liquid nitrogen can make this game run well. Its not you its the game.

Turn down some settings and you'll be fine. Arma 3 is such a inefficient piece of shit. I only like to play Atlis Life mod on that game. Battle Royal is fun too.

In most games this is good advice in Arma 3 very specific settings are the issue. You want the general graphics on Ultra but you want to reduce the view distance down to something like 1600 maybe lower depending on how performance is. Many of the other settings as you reduce them move onto the CPU and that actually makes the game run worse when you have a decent GPU. Like I said before the game is written very weirdly and it causes a lot of problems.

Nobody can run Arma 3 at a consistent 60 fps - not even a 5960X with 3 Titan Xs. It's impossible

Not in multiplayer. I literally got the same FPS with my R9 270 (7870) and R9 290 at 1080p AND 4k in high populated servers, so GPU doesn't really make a difference in my experience.

RIP in pepperonis m8s

Thats wrong. my brother, who has an A8 5600k, can run Arma 3 in Mutiplayer just perfectly. I'm tired of people spreading false extemates of Arma 3's performance. Sure Arma 3 runs bad, but not as exageratly bad as that. Also the reason why that server you play on lags is the mission design, server performance, and to many script that run at the same time. Mutiplayer is never more CPU demanding. Singleplayer is. Since AI is handled server side and in Singleplayer. Your PC handle the AI.

Specs: [CPU: Intel i5-4570(Clock to 3.6Ghz)] [GPU: Dual-X R9 270x 2GB] [RAM: x1 HyperX Blu 8GB 1600] [OS: Win8.1]

How much FPS will I get with i3 4170, 8GB ram and GTX 960 2GB?

I'd get an i5-6600k, you want as much IPC as you can get for Arma III because it's so horribly CPU bound. You can get DDR3 Z170 boards, so going Skylake doesn't necessarily mean throwing away your old RAM. The 6600k is a little overpriced, but its stronger IPC will probably do more for you in Arma III than the 4790k's hyperthreading.

I don't know about either of these things. The game does use some multithreading and it shows up that even a 6 core improves performance over a 4c8t CPU so I wouldn't want to loose frames to running an i3, but if the clockspeed is really high that will matter more.

As to Skylake we would assume the IPC helped, but it might not as no one has any really good benchmarks for Arma 3 that show the  extent of the problem and thus we don't have great testing for the game. I have been testing inside of real multiplayer games that had issues so I can't reproduce mine. We can assume it would be faster but we don't know that.
