So I overclocked my i7 4790k to 5.2 at 1.4v

Temps are 70c at full load stress testing

So temps are fine, is it ok to have high voltage if temps are good or does voltage effect other things that are bad for the cpu ???

As long as temps are fine and you're not scared about VRM cooling or powering it...you should be fine.

That's one awesome overclock.

Sig under construction.

Holy shit that's a pretty nice overclock. If it's only 70 under full load you're fine (Be sure to stresstest really long) Higher voltages will wear down the CPU faster but I bet you already know that

Should be fine, well arent you lucky

PC is Intel Core i5 6400, GIgabyte H170 Gaming 3, Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x4GB 2400Mhz ,Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB, WD Blue 1TB, NZXT S340, ASUS Geforce GTX 960. Fractal Design Tesla R2 650W. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/793XNG. Graphics card choices don't always have to be dictated on performance. If you want the game stream and power consumption of the GTX 970 get that. If you want raw performance of the R9 390 get that. In the end we are all gamers, so what if your buddy gets an extra 5 fps?

I've heard that 1.35v is the highest you should go for Haswell refresh chips, anything higher speeds up deterioration (Don't take my word for it) but really nice overclock....

Has anyone killed a chip from to much voltage with ok temps yet ??

Iv not heard of anyone

Yes, it doesn't matter about the temps if the voltage is not stable or can't go anymore the chips lifespan is effected or the chip gives out.

ok cheers, think il drop back to 4.8 at 1.28v

OP if you don't break 80c its fine, dont listen to le nooberinos.

Don't do any folding or anything like that.

I would see what it'll take for 5Ghz and leave it at that, nice chip btw.

PEWDIEPIE DONT CROSS THAT BRIDGE

It takes alot of voltage to actually kill a processor.

At least 1.8V is required to kill it if you fancy being really silly without using extreme cooling methods.

Is is 5GHz on all cores? 70C load is great as well. Good job.

5.2 on all cores dude :) I used some of that coollab liquid stuff instead of thermal paste it's really good

1.4V on Haswell is overvolting very hard. - 1.35 is the safest I'd dare go. If you can get 4.8 on 1.28V then you just won the silicon jackpot

Oh yeah 5.2GHz @1.4V is great. Personally i'd just keep it there or at 5GHz at least. Your cooler is definitely up to the job at keeping it happy.

coollab liquid metal is great 'paste'. It's definitely helping the temps stay low.

id recommend it for ur next paste dude it's well good, at stock speeds my temps are 35 at load and 14 idle ( which is my room temp lol)

Let me ask you this. Is it 5.2ghz across ALL CORES?
