Beyerdynamic Custom T1 Pro Headset

If you have the money for an anechoic chamber, you probably have enough to just buy some speakers.

Sound does tend to get altered (higher frequencies lose energy faster than lower ones) as it is carried across longer distances of (and thicker) mediums. But considering how it's just air and the wall reflections not being existent to amplify that effect, then of course I'd get speakers as well. That way I could watch a movie with a group of friends or relatives. I'd love to have my own personal theatre system. But I'd still get the Orpheus successor to enjoy playing gaming that had binaural audio modes.

If I was rich, then I'd just get it all really xD

Those sideways pictures make me feel drunk but I like the build. I wonder what @Charger thinks.

I take back what I said about closed-backed vs open-backed headphone in regards to soundstage. Open is better, unless if you have adequate dampening there are going to be a lot of reflections off of the cups of your headphones, whereas with just the mesh of open-backed you're going to get a lot less. I think the best results would be seen with open-backed headphones with no mesh in an anechoic chamber. That would be awesome. I swear if I'm ever am going to be rich one day, then I'll have my own anechoic chamber built and I'd listen to music, watch movies, and play games there. At that point I'd also get myself an Orpheus successor while I was at it. I can only imagine how immersive that would be...

Like KaminKevCrew says, at that point you might as well build a nice listening room for speakers. And in that situation, you don't want a completely dead room.

Now a quiet room, completely isolation from outside noise, would be pretty nice. Definitely good for audio.

@KaminKevCrew  I wonder if there are any closed-backed headphones that are made with miniature anechoic wedges for dampening the earcups, because that would be amazing. I'm sure that there's nothing like that right now, but I hope that there will be something like that in the future. Imagine closed-backed headphones like that that sounded just as good as a pair of open-backs! It'd certainly be a lot cheaper than buying your own chamber, and would be great everywhere.

Plenty of headphones have damping in them, open or closed. I don't think wedges would be necessary or even functional on that scale; could be wrong though. In any case, absorbing all in- and out-going sound would be impractical in a headphone. Reflection absorbtion depends on wavelength, and you can only fit so much material practically in a headphone. As for incoming sound, that depends on mass, and no-one wants massively heavy weights strapped to their head.

That (the part in bold) is what I thought would be a big problem too. I think that it would be quite difficult to fit dampening wedges shaped like this (that indefinitely bounce within themselves and absorb all audible frequencies, not just some) into a headphone:

Not sure if this would be a factor, but it actually might be impossible given the long length of the waves of the lower frequencies.

That's what I was thinking, unfortunately. Wedges are sized based on the wavelengths they are required to absorb.

Haha. Ya, I didn't realize that they'd turn out that way when was embedding them from TinyPic. I'll try to fix that. I'm glad that you like the build though. I really spent a lot of time debating on how I wanted the design to be, and it went through a lot of revisions. I was actually thinking of putting carbon fiber plates on the sides (like I had for some of the other custom ones that I had built in the past), but in the end I decided that the orange one looked better with the overall black (and silver) build. I'm sure that @LinusTech and @Slick would agree :)

Here's some of those other builds that I was talking about:

@TheProfosist I fixed the images, so you can open your eyes now without cringing now :)

Edit: They seem to be lagging the page a bit when you scroll now, however xD

How big are they? You may want to add a 56K warning.

I personally would have probably snagged the mic off the max 300 if possible.

I was thinking about doing a MMX 300 or DT 797 PV build a while ago. I might eventually, but I'd rather do the DT 797 PV since the mic on that is pretty insane (http://www.beyerdynamic.de/shop/hah/headphones-and-headsets/intercom-broadcast-and-tv/headsets-for-moderators-and-commentators/dt-797-pv.html)

It even requires phantom power, so I'd probably pair it with my CEntrance MicPort Pro (relatively portable). As for the headphones themselves I'd probably use a CEntrance DACport Slim when I'm on the go or hook it up to my home setup when I'm at home.

Amazing! I'm curious as to know how the soundstage fares on them.

It's surprisingly good on my alpha dogs, although they are a very warm headphone. They are basically my edm headphones and that's it. I'd also say that my a2000x with alpha pads probably trumps the dogs in sound stage, despite the fact that both are closed.

How good is the soundstage on them compared with open-backs in the same price point?

In my opinion, the alpha dogs are pretty close to hd650 sound stage, and the A2000X sound stage is awfully close to the hd800, Imo.
